Frustrated with Airfares

Hi all,

I have SSR booked for May 20-23 and was happy to see a total rate of $270 USD for flights from Buffalo to Orlando last week. Unfortunately, this week they have gone up to $560 USD. These rates are with Southwest.

We were expecting to go to WDW just for a short weekend trip and now I am considering cancelling because of the high fares.

It looks like Southwest isn't providing many of the low fares that we have gotten in the past... with flights like these, it is stupid to go for such a short period of time.

I have considered going with Air Tran since they are someone reasonable... but DH doesn't want to "cheat" on Southwest.

What should I do???

....supply and demand...fares generally go up as the plane fills up....that's the way of the world.

...if you see a low fare....it's best to not wait...you should grab it!

Agreed! I saw a good rate on Air Canada the other day (well, good for A/C -- my fiance doesn't want to fly out of Buffalo). Anyway, I got busy and forgot about it, now it's gone. Oh well, I guess I will have to keep checking

I read a newspaper report yesterday showing how SouthWest has raised their overall fares, and other airlines have followed. I'm looking for cheap airfare to Florida in late April and the cost has jumped in the past week from $202USD to $280 USD.

This isn't good news at all. As a travel agent, I know how it goes but I didn't expect it from Southwest. I'll hold out for DING fare closer too the date, but I have a feeling this will definitely change our plans about weekend Florida trips.

...isn't the key just to book early? As a Continental Airlines (they RULE here in the NYC area) Platinum Elite flier, I'm embarrassed to say that I myself goofed on booking for a Florida getaway next week (President's Day week here - kids are off school) ....waited til October to plan this trip (too late!)....Newark-Orlando was already near sell out on all flights, all days, all neighboring airports....I needed to adjust plans, fly out of Philly - a 2 hour drive - to get low fare (5 of us travelling so important to snag a low fare) and leave on Monday cutting our FL trip to 5 days not 7....but my bad...trip was planned too late! Oh well, so we'll have a (Philly) cheesesteak sandwich on the way to Florida! Live and learn!

No - that's why we go to Buffalo. Even if a $99 seat sale comes up, we get slapped with $200 in taxes. Pearson airport flyers pay the most taxes and surcharges and fees IN THE WORLD.

CHEAT! I so would. And check fares with AA, United and Continental while you're at it.

I got mid week non-stops BUF to MCO on Airtran last Saturday for $59. each way during March Break!!!

4 hours before I booked, one flight was $89, and when I booked it came down to $59.

I'd say book if you see a great price and check their policy for downgrading the fare if it goes on sale.

On the weekend I booked my flights to Orlando for May travel for $355 CAD/person on Air Canada, including taxes, and I'm flying from Western Canada. The flights connect through Toronto, so I imagine Toronto-Orlando would be cheaper.

The answer to this is NO.

We all go to Buffalo because Toronto airfares are outrageous! There is over 100% taxes... and they never end up being cheaper. Especially when I have to head to Niagara anyway before each trip to drop off my dog.

Sometime when you aren't busy... just do a little comparasion, you would be amazed!

And, as for booking early with Southwest, it is the opposite to most carriers. Usually the last minute is the best price!

I checked every day until I got a good rate! I travel with my daughter so I always prefer to fly out of Toronto.... so I checked daily until I saw $86 flights Yes, I still had to pay a whack in taxes, but saving a few hundred on the flight cost sure helped

I booked my BUF to MCO before Xmas for May DD and I are paying $271. return total for both of us. Even if the price goes down with SW I have always gotten a refund so no risk in booking as soon as the flights come out.

We are watching all of the airlines for June and they are all very HIGH. We will keep watching and the first one to have a decent price will be booked. Good Luck everyone!

no way in the UK a flight to the USA costs £400 in taxes alone your lucky.

Just an example... Flights on WestJet a round trip from Toronto to Orlando was listed as $209 CAD before tax. After tax and for two people, the total is $1090.00 CAD. Now, that's what I call a lot of tax.

ours would be $834 CAD per person in taxes alone I still think you are lucky
