FRS and Disney parks?

Do the FRS radio systems work at the Disney parks or are there just too many people using them for it to be an effective way of communicating?

I've heard that you can rent pagers at Disney? Anybody know the details of these as regards cost and effectiveness?

we used ours last May but they are the GMRS and they worked fine - even all the way from the train station to the Poly.

I have used the motorola FR60 that we have with the subchannels and didn't have a problem at all. As long as you have the subchannels you will be fine.

The item is using regular low-strength FRS radio band. Considering the models, you don't have sub-channels either.

You may have cross-talk problem and range issues, not to mention battery-guzzling properties.

I personally swears by Cobra PR240 GMRS radio.

5-mile maximum range (2-mile effective range, perfect for in-park communications)

836 sub-channels

Battery Saver Circuitry (switches to this mode after 10 seconds of inactivity)

comes with rechargeable battery packs and charger

Yes, the price is double, but the range itself more than doubles (slightly less than 1-mile effective range with regular FRS)

, plus you'll save a lot in batteries (the rechargeable battery can last about 16 hours with heavy use, 24 hours with regular use; you don't have to spend more on batteries)

, sub-channels are extremely important

the GMRS radios are the way to go. As the prices
are going down, there really isn't any reason not
to use the GMRS radios vs the FRS only.
The range is better -we had friends in the TTC
and we were on Main St. and we could call them.
You should probably spend the $$ and get the
licence -its 75.00 for five years. GMRS radios
are required to be licenced by the FCC. We got
our licence online at the fcc website.
We've had the Motorola GMRS/FRS sets and love
them for their durability and sound quality.

Unfortunately, GMRS is illegal in Canada and so any two-ways we buy in Canada have the GMRS disabled. The FRS we have does not have a scrambling device so I imagine it would be useless in DW. We are going in a week, so maybe they wouldn't be so bad in January when it isn't that busy.

We were thinking of getting a couple of RINO's. Does the RINO's frs have a scrambling/privacy device built in, or are they just a plain FRS? Does anybody know?

Don't buy it in Canada. Buy it from the US and ship it to Canada.

Mine was bought in the US, received and inspected in Canada, and the GMRS wasn't disabled. So far my entire own one each (total of 8 units) imported through legal channels in Canada.

Don't forget that GMRS is only waiting to be license free (this coming summer). GMRS is not illegal. GMRS have been used for quite a while by security companies in Canada.

Either that, or check out the features that you
want and pick up the radios at Staples/Best Buy, etc in Orlando. Places like Staples, Office
Depot, Office Max usually have very good
prices for the radios, and usually carry
Motorola and Cobra's (those are the two brands Ive used before and have been
pretty happy with them.

We don't have time to ship them up here from the States, but we were thinking we might pick some up in Buffalo, NY, as we were driving through. Stores are open late on a Friday night!:teeth:

Yup, there you go. check out the big office
supply stores as well as things like Best Buy,etc....

have fun!!!
