We have a little one who didn't 'like' the beginning of Pirates, due to the drop. Any drops like that on Frozen Ever After? (Don't remember riding Maelstrom)
There are two drops. One drop is a backwards. Perhaps look for a youtube video and see if you think your daughter could tolerate it. I'm not a big fan of the PoTC drop as I don't like to be in the dark, so the Frozen drops don't bother me as much, but I would definitely look at the video.
The drop is not that steep and is similar to the Pirates one but it is not in pitch darkness. You can see it coming. The backwards portion is barely a drop at all.
We've done FEA a couple of times (and Maelstrom way more than that) and I didn't think the backwards portion dropped at all. Is the "drop" where it feels like the ride vehicle makes a track change?
Yes, it's exactly the same. They just made the both the FEA entrance and exit where the Maelstrom exit was, so the ride is slightly longer. The beginning Olaf scene in FEA is where the Maelstrom entrance used to be.

Yes, (spoiler alert), when Elsa sings "Let it Go", the boat drops backward. It then, eventually changes tracks and the boat moves forward again right before the forward drop.
There are some ride videos on youtube that will give you a good idea of the drops. The backwards one is more of a slide down a ramp. The second one is no worse than the one in Pirates, but in my opinion easier to handle because you can see where you're going.
