Frozen replacing Maelstrom - dislike!

AGREE!

This ride should be in the Magic Kingdom or possibly the Studios. NOT World Showcase. I actually like Frozen very much, but a ride based on a film that takes place in a fictional kingdom that is kinda sorta like Norway should not be in the Norwegian pavilion.

(Have to put it out there - I'm a quarter Norwegian.)

World Showcase needs more rides LIKE Maelstrom, not one less. Cultural icons, even kitschy icons have geo-ambassador worth, not counted in $$. Small World will always be " worth" the space, symbolizing why many come and return to a Disney park. And Epcot's hallmark is education, not popcorn snowballs.
Frozen belongs in the theme park canon, but ousting a Norway ride...or any portrayal of real Scandinavia, and enthroning Arendelle is just crass.
Boo, Big-Time, corporate board!

>>> If the movie actually took place in Norway and the ride featured realistic depictions of actual sites in Norway presented by the characters from Frozen, I'd be okay with that, just as I'm okay with them having the Three Caballeros take us on a tour through Mexico. As long as the focus of the ride is Norway. <<<'

VERY well stated, and this is exactly the way I feel about it. I also TOTALLY agree with the sentiment of "ENOUGH Frozen already!!!!" - it's OVERKILL already!!!

I am very unhappy. I have wonderful memories a kid riding maelstrom. It really made me want to see the real Norway. I love frozen but it is fictional. We will be going to Disney in November. I am heartbroken I will not be able to ride one more time.

I will miss the ride, certainly. But I will really miss the "Norway's Next Top Model" mural above the boarding zone. Those are some photogenically windswept, stoic Vikings.

I'll miss maelstrom but it is pretty cheesy. I'm sure the new frozen overlay will be tastefully done. I'll wait until it's done before I pass judgement.

I believe Morocco is the only country that still financially supports its pavillion.

I just don't believe that means Disney needs to turn World Showcase into New New Fantasyland.

I agree. And I'm unhappy with this change. I am sentimental towards Maelstrom. & Epcot is my least favorite park. I hated the new Test Track.

I live in Pensacola and visited last around May I think. I was thinking of moving closer when I graduated from college, but with all the changes I disliked, I have decided to move to the west coast & be closer to DL. I know it's a smaller park, but I think the quality for repeat customers is higher.

I will only miss AK. And I will not miss the humidity. Thinking of NV, MT or WA - short plane flight.

I'm really sad to see this go. Why couldn't they have gutted Ellen's and made part of future world "Frozen Escape Corner" and done it there. That ride is so old. Also, isn't there like a large building not in use? Why not put a ride in there? Why ruin a classic?

I never liked Maelstrom...but...I don't agree with dropping a Frozen attraction in that particular location or even in that park.

Unfortunately, it will probably be a money printing machine for Disney for many years. They are pretty smart about what sells and what drives people to visit their parks. Maelstrom did not sell many tickets is my guess. Frozen will unless they do a lousy job with the attraction

The days of Epcot being an education park are going away sadly

Well to be honest I'm kind of indifferent about it.

If Disney feels they can get more guests into pavillion and make money from it, which as a corporation is their goal then I understand.

And my guess is those who disapprove are far less and more vocal than those who do approve.

The whole thing screams first world problems

Hi,
Does Frozen replacing Maelstrom open the floodgates for other non-cultural rides in this section of the park? They could now import Mystic Manor into China, put a Ratatouille ride in France, an Aladdin ride in Morocco, a Brave or Mary Poppins ride in England, and so on...

I hope so. All these sound awesome!

I'd rather they not. I would like to see some semblance of the old Epcot to still be there. Future World needs more help anyway.:thumbsup2 There is the need to update innoventions and put something in the old Wonders of Life pavillion

BigAlsGal, they do sound awesome, but that isn't the point. If Disney decides to reimagine World Showcase and turn it into something entirely different, that's one thing, but that isn't what they're doing with the Frozen ride. Instead they are just sticking a fantasy ride in the middle of a park dedicated to bringing real world culture to guests - France, Germany, Morocco, Japan.... Arendelle doesn't cut it. It isn't a real place and doesn't belong where they are putting it.

Maybe this is part of a bigger secret plan to overhaul World Showcase but I certainly hope not.

Do we know if they said it's Arrendelle for sure or are the they taking the characters from Frozen and placing them in Norway?

. Stay tuned until 2016 to find out!

I have to place my faith in the Imagineers at this point

I think the original idea of World Showcase is at its end.

No money coming in from the countries means that Disney is footing the bill and they will put in whatever makes money. Not necessarily bad if they do it well but it is not going to be like it was.

From what I understand the whole pavilion will be changing in a major way. Many people will not like it but it will bring in money and eventually the rest of World Showcase will be converted also.

But do we know that isn't what they're doing? Hmmm...:listen:

I find it hysterical that other posts around the DIS say that Norway isn't a fan of Arendelle/Frozen yet I noticed on their tourism website the other day quite a bit of reference. Interesting. Verrrry interesting.
