I am one who likes to cook on vacation :rotfl2: I know I'm crazy !!! We always use garden grocer but I was thinking about preparing some things here at home - meatloaf, meatballs, chicken nuggets - freezing them and bringing them with us. Can you check frozen food? Anyone ever done it? I figure our trip is usually about six hours - hour to the airport, 1.5 hour wait at airport, 2 hour flight, 1 hour travel from MCO to WDW and 30 minues to spare!!! Suggestions? Ideas? Thanks in advance!

Yes, you can check frozen food. On a domestic flight, you could even use an ice-chest, except it would need a good way to be opened by TSA and reclosed (can't use duct tape anymore). I always take some frozen food in a small cooler in a duffel bag on trips to Grand Cayman -- since it's Int'l, I just take commercially wrapped/packaged things in original containers (meat needs to be "officially" inspected or somethign). I can get quite a bit into a soft-side cooler, with a couple of ice-packs, and then we have the cooler to take to the beach!

We have a store here called Aldi that has some very handy frozen stuff -- steaks, fish, shrimp, turkey meat-balls, etc. My DGS is pretty fussy, so I take some stuff for him that isn't easy to find down there also.

My DSis makes the best ribs and one year she froze some to bring to our WDW stay. It was a tasty disaster because the plastic containers that she froze things in cracked and there was sauce all over the cooler.

She had done it previously when coolers could be carry ons, but the stress of airline handling made it less than what we had hoped for. She has since packed other non frozen cool things and they've been fine. Just pack as carefully as you can, and it should work for you.

Boy you guys are really organized ! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: No cooking for this princess on vacation.

For the Aldi person, there is now an Aldi down here on Orange Blosson Trail just off OBT on the way to Disney from the airport. It is maybe a half mile off 417 at the most. Nice new store.

Being from up north I know Aldi has it loyal fans. They are new down here in FL.

Thanks -- great to hear that. You have to know what you're doing to shop at Aldi (not everything is great, but a lot is) -- I am a big fan. Their things come in reasonable sizes, too -- not like sam's and costco. I will be there for two weeks and June, and may go there instead of packing as much as I otherwise would. It's going to take us two days to drive there, so maybe I'll be able to skip the frozen stuff in the cooler and not have to worry about how long it's in the car, if it's not too far out the way from where we'll be. Thanks!
