Frozen Burnout

Frozen is inspired by Norway, but is set in Arrendelle. Even still, A.A. Milne, the author of Winnie the Pooh was from the UK and wrote the books to take place in that setting. As far as Frozen, Arrendelle is a fictional place and the story it is based off of "The Snow Queen" was written by Hans Christian Andersen, a Danish author. So.... there's that.

Actually Hans Christan Andersen was born in 1805 in the "Kingdom of Denmark and Norway." Norway was one with Denmark until the Napoleonic Wars of 1814...and he wrote about "scandinavia" considering Norway, Sweden and Denmark to be related historically...and since the country isn't funding the pavilion, they really don't have a say anymore

funny thing is not many people complained about him not having a huge connection to Norway back when it was Ariel being featured a there in Akershus.

I think what Disney is doing is about right...they are working the characters in on a temporary basis in as many places as they can to keep some stale shows more timely...and then in a couple of years, there will be something new to get excited about and these will be only memories...the only real exception will be the ride, and this is where the needs of updating that mouth-eaten stale ride with the need to bring a Frozen ride somewhere meet perfectly.

It was clear they designed much of the look of the movie off the elements that had been created in the pavilion, the buildings, the trolls, etc. They might have been better prepared to capitalize on it if the film hadn't been projected by many experts to be a flop up until it was released...and after The Lone Ranger, you know they were feeling scared. There were issues with the adaptation, and the script, and much more...so the fact that this was a huge hit took everyone, including Disney by surprise...which is why last Christmas there wasn't much merchandise...though they could have written "Let It Go" on any of the thousands of dust collecting Lone Ranger items and sold them I bet...fans weren't too picky. :)

The frozen buzz cant end just yet I have not built a snow man yet :rotfl2:

But once we get snow and I build a snow man I can be over :thumbsup2

According to historians Andersen was born and died in Denmark.
Frozen is based on The Snow Queen, which he wrote about a Swedish woman he fell in love with, but didn't return the same feelings.

Best recollection of that story was there were Finnish and Lapland characters.
Not all Scandinavian countries are the same, there are some similarities and some differences.
The main thing that links it to Norway might be the names Olaf, Sven and Elsa but that even is a common name in Sweden and to a lesser degree, Denmark.

Personally I'm sick of Frozen and the fact that Disney is pushing it in the Parks, on television (all of the Disney affiliates) and the stores.

All in all it's pretty trite and contrived. A lot of the love that the little ones have for it is saturation (mini-mob mentality)

I'm kind of burnt out on Mickey Mouse. I mean do we really need all the hidden Mickeys all over the place? Every store on property. Every park you visit. Every hotel. Ice cream sandwiches. All the character breakfasts. All the balloons. The little soaps in the rooms. The cartoons on the Magical Express Bus from the airport. All the Magic Band sensors. The doorknobs. The carpets. The bedspreads. The rope drop every day. All the parades. The castle show.

C'mon Disney! Stop putting Mickey everywhere.

There's 1,000 times more Mickey than Elsa. And that's probably an understatement. Let's start putting Elsa and Anna in the ice cream sandwiches and on the bed sheets.

Lol. There was a Frozen themed ice cream sandwich for FSF at the ice cream qs near ToT. Now there is an Olaf frozen treat at all the ice cream carts. So guess it's just the bed sheets and then it's covered ;)

Very funny.

Of course, Mickey has been around for 86 years and launched the entire Disney empire. I think he has proven his staying power.

Frozen just passed its 1-year anniversary. I think it needs a little more time before it can be put in the same class as Mickey.

I am somewhat reminded however of The Lion King. That was Disney's blockbuster 20 years before Frozen. That ended up with an attraction in 3 of the 4 parks (Festival of the Lion King in AK, Legend of the Lion King in MK, and Circle of Life in Epcot). Two of the three are still there. So there is some precedent for "flooding" the market based on a big hit.

I'm not burnt out so much with all the Frozen stuff in the parks as I am with all the Frozen merchandise that is in EVERY store I have shopped in for the last month. From drugstore and box stores to craft stores and retail store it seems every business is cashing in on the Frozen phenomenon.

Going off on a tangent here but Disney has learned something over the years. Remember when the original Toy Story came out and there were hardly any Toy Story merchandise available.

I remember when Little Mermaid came out (1989) and there was absolutely nothing available. We begged a theater for a movie poster for a birthday party.

Also remember that when Frozen first came out over a year ago (WOW! It's been that long) parents could not find anything for MONTHS. Costumes were being bought up and sold for exorbitant prices on eBay.

Disney is filling a demand. I know many people are just sick to death of Frozen, but many, many little kids aren't. I'm the mother of a nine year old girl, the VP of the PTA and a Girl Scout leader.

If I hear Let it Go one more time I'm going to toss my snowmen. But I happily hovered over my keyboard until 9:00pm Pacific time to get that coveted FP+ to meet A & E.

I will head straight to the Frozen Fun section of CA this April. And it's all for the sake of my daughter and what she loves right now.
