Frosty Towels? Anyone try them??

These are some great ideas for dealing with the awful Florida heat, thanks everyone!

Dug up this old post before I left for my trip a few weeks ago and tried out the Frogg Togg, Chill-Its and Frosty Towel (all from Amazon). I far preferred the Frogg Togg and Chill-Its over the Frosty Towel. I couldn't get past the strong citronella smell on the Frosty Towel and wearing it around my neck in a crowded line just made me feel self-conscious; I never even brought it back to the parks the following days because it smelled so bad. If you can get over the smell, it was very cooling and felt drenched and heavy like a saturated washcloth (but didn't drip). But the material felt like a thin, cheap, nubby facecloth that wouldn't make it through one wash so I don't think it was meant to be reused like the other two brands. ...And a heads up, I think a few of the previous posters are plants for the company which annoys me, but I gave the product a shot anyway. (Both one post each on the same day, and a similar review on amazon )

Both the Frogg Togg and Chill-Its were great and really helped on the days we got heat and sun rather than rain. Neither had the drenched wet feeling like the Frosty Towel, so in one sense the Frosty Towel felt more refreshing in an instant gratification kind of way. The Frogg Togg and Chill-Its were more like a dry/slightly damp cold pad that cooled you down gently and took the scorched feeling off your skin. There were times that I did feel too cold after wearing it too long, so I put it away. They did both start smelling a bit like mildew after a few days. We machine washed them once we got home and don't seem to smell anymore but haven't used them since (I will try them out again this summer at Disneyland). But I think the next time we go on a longer trip, I will cut the towels in half (because they didn't really have to be that big), and use each half for a couple of days in a row, then rotate to the next fresh towel while the used one can be handwashed at the hotel and dried out.

I bought one at Dick's Sporting Goods, but didn't like it. I never used it. It was too bulky. It would have worked better if it was longer and not quite as wide. I couldn't figure out how to carry it in the parks. It was too big to put into the small bag I carry, but didn't fit right to wear around your neck.

I'm pretty sure that I've read that you can cut them, which means you could make them any size you want.

Thanks for the honest review. I was wondering about those 2 posts you mentioned - Seemed really strange that someone only posts once and their burning desire is to share info on Frosty Towels.

I love my Frog Togg towel. You can get them at Bed Bath Beyond & Walmart - in the camping section. I always let mine dry out at night. I hang it up to dry and it drys stiff as a board then I rewet it and put it in a ziplock bag to keep other things from getting wet.
Stays cool for 4 hours. Then all you have to do is rewet it and it gets cold again.

Ok, I have to ask. Why not just pack a wash cloth with cold water and some ice and use that to cool off. It's basically free.

Does your ice stay frozen for 4 hours? After 4 hours a frog togg simply needs to be rewet and its turns ice cold.

Mine has dried out and I have used them in between each time.. I have frogg toggs. I love them cause they really do keep you cool and not wet. I put the one towel in my DGD's stroller last August and wrapped the other one around my neck and it was perfect...
