We're looking into finally replacing our old washer & dryer and are looking into the front loading ones. Dh had read somewhere that if you install a front loading washer on a floor that is not concrete (ie, on a joist floor) that it will rock and shake. For those of you who have one, what has your experience been? Our laundry room is in the first floor mud room, off of the garage, and since there is a basement below, it wouldn't be on a concrete floor.

We bought one a few weeks ago (Kenmore) and I absolutely love it and it's whisper quiet unless it's going through a spin. During the spin cycle it's loud and does shake quite a bit and we have ours in the basement on concrete.

We have the Whirpool Duets. We also have them on the pedestals you can buy. Ours are on a concrete slab. I never put the spin on high because its too much. I do know the spin can get really crazy sometimes. I know the dryer sheet box flew off the top once and an almost empty detergent bottle did too. But I love them. Makes doing the laundry so much easier.
