Do you have a front loading washer & dryer? We're looking into them, but would like opinions (good/bad) other than Consumer Reports. If you could tell me the brand, too, that would be great! :laundy:

Thanks!

My parents just bought an Electrolux. Those are the ones Kelly Ripa is now the spokeswoman for. My parents love it.

I have a Whirlpool Duet and I love them. Mine is 3 years old and we've had no problems.

Just replaced my Whirlpool Calypso with a Whirlpool Duet washer. (I have the MAytag Drying center, the one with the cabinet above the tumble dryer). So much happier now!

Mine are Bosch Nexxt series, and I love them. They are huge, they easily fit what would have been 1 1/2 or 2 loads in my old top loading set, and I can do a whole load of jeans which my old set couldn't handle.

If you do get a set, make sure you leave the door on the washer open when you are not using it, or they get really foul and stinky (because they seal so well).

We just bought the Kenmore Elite with the steam option, and I have to admit that I have never seen cleaner clothes or whiter whites (without bleach). I never realized that I could fall in love with an appliance, but I did.

We have the Samsung with the VRT. I love them it took my DH forever to talk me into getting them because i dont like to spend that kind of money but i am so glad that he didnt let me get a regular washing machine and dryer.

The only one I have ever used is at the BC & I love it!!!!!
My cousin just bought them & is very pleased.

Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer three years old. No problems. Love both of them.

I agree! I wanted to leave my old set in the old house when we sold it, and buy a new set. I was only thinking a new top loading set. My husband came home with the front loading set, and I CHOKED on the price tag, but I love them.

Also have the Kenmore Elite set - with the shelf that extends across the top of the set. Great for folding things - I'm just tall enough! Well worth the investment.

We have the Whirlpool duet washer and gas dryer. We bought them in May 2003.

We had one little problem with the dryer last year - the door open sensor stopped working (dryer wouldn't start, because it always thought the door was open.) DH was able to fix it himself easily.

I really like them, and would definitely recommend them.

OK, I am the odd man out here, so I know it is just me or I got a lemon, but we have a Kenmore Elite, and I can't stand it. There was a thread posted a few days ago form a woman who said she was getting her clothes ripped by her front loader, well my clothes are getting little holes in them. I thought at first it was the clothes that I bought, but then my hubby complained and then I notice some of my other shirts were doing the same thing. Aslo I have never had more wrinkles. Now, please know that I have been doing laundry for 27 years, so I know what I am doing. I never had wrinkles with my other washer and dryer. I have tried adjusting the spin speed and and amt in the wash cycle. Liquid softener has helped a great deal, even though I use the dryer sheets I still use softener to help with the wrinkles. So, in short (lol) I would kill to have my old fashioned washer and dryer back, but I am stuck with these. Anyway, everybody else loves theirs, I just wanted to vent.

I bought the LG Steam washer and dryer in the Fall and just love them... Makes doing :laundy: so much better!

I have the Kenmore Elite HE3t. The washer and dryer are great. I can't believe how many towels I can wash and dry at once. We have had them for several years and have had no problems with them at all.

Hint...
Go for a set that has a FULL DRUM for the dryer... not just the sides that spin/rotate, while the back and the front stay stationary... The stationary parts are in constant friction with the fabrics... the finish is now getting worn off mine, leaving it less smooth.. and this will soon start to ruin my clothing/fabrics...

I have a Duet Sport... the small Whirlpool Duet... HATE HATE HATE it... every single day I wish I hadn't changed my mind, and had bought the nice Bosch with the full stainless steel washer drum and dryer drum! And this is not the only thing that is bad about my Whirlpool Duet Sport.

I recently looked at a regular sized Duet while passing thru a store.. NO better.... Same set up...

Also, you will NOT be saving water with a machine that claims to use a tiny fraction of the water of a regular washer... Because you will have to run everything thru extra rinses just to get your laundry clean and get the excess detergent rinsed out!

Front loaders are not fast... They take time.. So, when you factor in extra rinse cycles, it takes hours just to run a few loads of laundry..
NOT acceptable...

Please make an informed decision... Don't fall for gimmicks and gadgets... Get a washer that uses enough water to clean and rinse properly without ruining your fabrics with tons of residue.. Get a washer and dryer that both have a complete full drum... (not just the sides that rotate)... and preferably are both stainless steel. So that the finish will not wear off the drum and ruin your fabrics.

If you get the right front loader, you will LOVE LOVE LOVE it...
If you dont, you might HATE it.

The biggest thing that no one here has mentioned is you MUST USE HE DETERGENT. Smaller amounts of regular are not going to cut it. THe He is meant for these washers, low sudsing. My Calypso was also an He washer, the Duet washes the same way, I have not experienced the need for extra rinsing or had excessively wrinkled clothes with Tide He (both regular and the new Total Care) and Downy. I tried to use up my old "regular" detergent when I first purchaed the Calypso years back, got a suds lock error every time.
