Hi there

My washer is on it's last legs. I am looking for information on front loader washers. I heard that they are more energy efficient and use less water.

I have back and knee problems and would be interested in one that comes with a platform. I figure it can't be much different that bending to put things in my dryer.

Thanks for any information.

We bought a front-loading washer in 2002 and I don't think I'll ever go back to a top-loaders. My only regret was not buying the stand. I'm tall so bending over does bother my back a bit. They do use less water and are more energy efficient. I love it!

My mom bought front-loading washer and dryer last year with stands and when I've gone to visit her for vacation I love that it's up higher and easier to access. My parents won't ever go back to old top-loading washers.

I love my frontload HE washer and dryer! We bought it 4 years ago and we save so much on water. My husband and I practically do laundry every night. My parents do not do laundry as much as us, but their water bill is twice as high as ours. When we bought our unit, we bit the bullet and bought the pedastal drawers for $150 a piece (you place the washer / dryer on top of the pedastal drawers). At first, I was having difficulty justifying 2 large drawers that cost $300 total, but now I look back, they are well worth it. It gives you plenty of space to store your detergent and puts your washer and dryer at a nice, comfortable level. I can't imagine doing laundry without the pedastal drawers. It would just seem uncomfortable because everything would be so low.

Thanks for the help. I bought a 207 fridgedaire HE washer. I went to the two appliance stores in our area. The pedestals were $199 at both stores, but based on the experience of both of you, I decided it was worth it.

The best part is that it is being delivered tomorrow!

Thanks again.

The stands do not have to be specially made...my husband made us some from wood - with a sliding shelf to put the basket on and they were definately cheaper than 150 each....So, if you are handy with wood...

We have a wonderful set that was a Christmas Present a few years ago. We do not have the drawers but I do not need them. I am average height and do not find it any problems in using them.

I love the fact it takes less water and less washing "powders".
