We are about to buy a new washer and dryer :laundy:. I have looked at the front loader He ones. I think that is what I want. You that have those how do you like them? Suggestions? I have looked at the Whirlpool Duet. DH gets a good discount through work on Whirlpool and Kitchen Aide. So we will be going with one of those brands for the discount (unless of course there was a great deal on another brand ;))

Thanks!!

I cannot recommend Whirlpool, I have a 5 year old Duet pair and have had issues with both. The dryer need repairs just a month before the year warrenty was up (thankfully the repair was covered!) The washer bearings gave out after 4 years and of course were not under warrenty. That repair would have been over $600 but after some time was able to get corporate to cover the parts but the labor still cost me $200. Not a reliable track record for an expensive appliance. I wish appliances were still built to last 10-15 years and could be repaired reasonably.

We got a LG set 4 months ago. There great. We have gotten great items from this website. I always buy the extended warranty just in case due to them being referbs. But you cant tell they are, they come out of the box brand new. We saved around 50% for the set.

I'm going to buy a LG dishwasher from them next month.

We have a samsung, just the washer, rarely use a dryer. I love it. My friend has the pair and love both. I don't know what kind of deals you may find. We got ours last year when they were discounting floor models so we got a good deal.
I would have to agree with PP that MIL has a whirpool and has had lots of issues with it and in getting them to fix it.

We have the Duets and haven't had a single problem in 3 years. We do just two loads of laundry a week when we used to do 4. Its awesome.

We got LG's just 2 months ago and love them! Got a great deal at Home Depot on the bigger ones for just under $600 each

Very quite, amazing quick, saves ton of money on engery bills.

My SIL just bought at GE and loves it, I know the one she got did really well in Consumers.

I have a 5 yo Bosch, so I can't comment on brands since there are so many new ones since I bought mine. I just have to say DEFINITELY get a HE machine! My only issues, I have to clean mine with Affresh tablets to get out residue, also the accordion-like tube on the washer gets all gunked-up and needs an annual cleaning out (probably all full of soap!)

At WDW, I had McDonalds chocolate milk spill all over my white shorts. I washed then in our condo, all the stains set. DD spilled the same choc milk on white shorts last week and it came out in my HE, no pretreating!

Plus the gentile settings are awesome, my Mom gives me all her Vera Bradley bags to wash! LOL

I have a pair of LG. They are awesome. They were $1100. at Sears. No interest for a yr. My water bill and electric bill have both dropped since I got them. Make sure you use the "HE" soap. Walmart makes their own brand so it is much more reasonable than Tide. I'm sure u will be happy with any brand, there is such a difference from the top loaders.:laundy:

I've had my duette for at least 4 years, and couldn't be happier! :goodvibes It has such a large capacity, does a great job, is SO quiet - I could never go back to a top loader. I used to do 3 loads a day, and I'm down to 1.

Another vote for the Duets. I love mine. I am constantly doing laundry and never had a problem. You really can get a lot in there!

I love my duets!! We have good friends who own an appliance repair business and this was the brand they recommended based on their experience.
I was so hesitant at first and didn't want to give up my traditional top loaders but the new house we just moved into has built in counters made for front loaders. The wash cycle takes longer than I was used to but I can get twice amount in there and the clothes are cleaner!

We looked around and Lowes had the best price for the models we wanted and then used the 10% movers coupon on top of it.

We're looking at a Samsung. I wanted a LG but read several reviews of them shaking too much if you aren't on a concrete slab. Our house is off the ground and not the most leveled floor. I read many reviews raving about the Samsung not vibrating during cycles and being very quiet.

I have a KitchenAid front loader and dryer. The washer weighs your clothes and adds the right amount of water--there is no water level switch as you don't need one. This means you never run a small load having forgotten that the water level was on high. It also heats its own water if the incoming water temperature isn't high enough. Because my Whirlpool dishwasher does the same I have turned down the temperature of my water heater and saved $$. In addition, frontloaders by their nature use less water to wash clothes so there's another way to save $.

Also, most wash cycles have the "add a garment" feature. If you start the cycle and realize you forgot something, you can add it within 8 minutes of the start of the cycle.

I got a good deal recently on Tide HE liquid at CVS (using some of those "extra bucks on top of a sale) but CVS has their own version of HE detergent, which is quite good.

Europe has enjoyed frontloading washers for decades--only recently did they appear in the US. I'll never get another toploader again.

Been very pleased wit hmy Duet Washer. I have the Maytag drying center dryer with upper drying cabinet. Love that baby too!

I have a GE profile that is a top loader with the same agitator as the front loader he. It was much cheaper than the front loader but does the same job.....much less water and agitates the same way. It's awesome and cleans really great.

We bought the Kenmore HE, 5E steam, over a year ago and absolutely love it.:thumbsup2

I have a Samsung, and I love it! I first bought an LG, loved it too but my laundry is on the second floor and it shook the whole house. Called Best Buy, they told me I should have bought the Samsung due to my laundry being on the second floor. They actually apologized for not finding out before I bought the LG! So I was able to exchange -- that was awesome! The Samsung is soooo quiet, and does not shake my house at all!! Love the fact I use so much less water than with a top loader, too.

Just wanted to let you know that I have a duet washer and mine went days before it turned 5 years old. The service person told me it would cost about $600 to fix but to let him go back to the office and see if they would cover the parts under the warranty ( I did not have the extended warranty). Called back and said I just needed to pay labor for it to be fixed but that it is a two man job so twice the labor. They are fixing it tomorrow so I will find out then how much the labor is. I asked if this was a common problem with the duet. He told me not with the duet but with front end loaders the ball bearings are not stainless steel so sometimes they go and that leads to other problems.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm hoping that labor day weekend they have some great sales on the front loaders like they have other holidays. :thumbsup2 I would never thought I would be excited about getting a new washer and dryer :rotfl:

I think that when you begin to become excited over appliances it's a sign of finally being a grownup! :) When my Whirlpool Calypso died (right after we returned from Disney last year), it stopped draining. I had a full tub of sopping wet blue jeans  .The next morning at 9AM I was in my favorite local appliance store, talking with an old friend of my SIL. She didn't try to sell me the top of the line, even though we could afford it, she told me that the Duet Sport would meet my needs and be kind to my checking account :) . Best part was that it was in stock and that they could deliver that afternoon. I tell ya, when the guys came and took that POS Calypso out the door I was so happy I smiled all the while I was mopping up the water that came out of it! I did laundry for the rest of the night with a grin on my face. I concidered the washer my Christmas present!
