Hi. We have a metal front door. Years ago, a friend redid it. Took off all the trim and painted it like wood. Well years have past, all the nicks and holes. Ugly. I have filled the dents and cracks, sanded. I found a real nice burgandy spray paint. So I started on the bottom. It looks like(crap). You can see everything. And now our house STINKS.

:confused3 HELP :confused3

did you try priming it first? You might try kills (sp)...White can, red lettering...hmmmm anyway it comes in a spray then try painting it?

Honestly, you shouldn't use spray paint. It's nearly impossible to get even coverage with spraypaint and it doesn't last very long at all.

What you should be using is a regular ol' can of exterior paint. If it's currently oil-based, you should use oil-based again. If it's latex, you can use oil or latex, but latex is easier to clean up afterwards.

You might could get by with just a quart of paint but I'd go ahead and get the full gallon. For $20-25 you'll have more than enough to do the job properly, plus extra to do touch-ups later! We ususally do 2 good coats on the doors....that way a simple scratch doesn't expose the old color underneath!

Good luck with your project!

it doesn't cover evenly. Prim the door with a metal primer, and then repaint it whatever color you like.
