Can anybody tell me if the price of airfares from the Northeast to Orlando tend to come down a little in the summer months or do the airfares tend to stay about the same or even go higher?
The reason I ask is because obviously the airfares are kind of high now and I want to book a stay at Disney for late August. I would hate to book a flight now only to see the price drop in a few months. I'm thinking of booking the trip but holding off on the airfare for a few months to see what happens and hoping that I can get a better rate knowing that I may win or lose on this one. It's a gamble I think I'm going to take. Do you think it's worth the gamble?

Airfares to Orlando do come down some for summer travel. Just sign up for Travelocity's e-mail alerts from airports near you. When prices drop to a price range form $175-$225 for non-stop......book it.::yes::

I too are holding out for a decent airfare for mid Aug. Right now, airfares from Newark are $210/RT compared to last Aug. at $130/RT. I am hoping that they come down some because there are 5 of us...and I would much rather fly than drive!

Watch which days you travel. The lowest fares tend to be mid-week. Traveling on the weekend is going to be higher.

We're flying mid-Aug on a Friday and are paying $215 pp, non-stop from Logan. Booked early last month.

Going in May and I am still holding out! Paid $168/person last year. Can't find anything under $200 to date. I hope I am playing the game and win and don't lose out!

I am holding out also. Paid $236 pp last May now fares are up to $274pp. We are traveling at the end of October.

My dad has us booked on Jet Blue out of Logan for $175.00 pp.
My uncle is using Jet Blue at the end of June, and their cost is $20.00 dollars more pp. We always book our flights as soon as the dates are posted for that time frame. The longer you waite, the lower fares will sell out, and then you move into the next lowest bracket for seats available, eg; Southwest, Jet Blue, etc.

I was also going to suggest JetBlue. I just priced out a flight from Thursday the 19th to Monday the 30th of August for $190 non-stop, round trip.

I have seen other mid week flights with them for $79 each way. They seem to be going after Song and are consistently cheaper so far.

My suggestion is to keep checking the various websites daily.

I have been watching for about 3 months for Logan or Providence to Orlando for 5 people. Just last week Delta dropped to 160.00 RT. I grabbed it. It is direct Boston to Orlando but we do have to make one stop coming home. The next day it was up to 185.00.

Just keep watching, you never know when it will drop.
Good Luck

The best webfares I can find for Mid-August right now from Boston to Orlando is $181 r/t. I'm going to hold out for a few more months before I book to see what happens. Hopefully the fares come down for the summer. I'm taking a chance but I have a feeling they will drop down some. Who knows? It's a chance I'm willing to take knowing that I could possibly pay more than now. I just hope not. I wouldn't mind booking Southwest out of Providence but I'm not sure when they will announce their August fares. The best fares on Southwest sell out quick also so you have to get them as soon as they come out.

Generally that is absolutely true, but Song runs sales out of the blue that are unbeatable! Last year, they had RT for $175 then had a sale for about 1 week and lowered it to $120/RT.

Any direct non-stop flight you can get for $181 is a good deal in my book (is what you are seeing perhaps a connecting flight?). You can wait for the SW flights to come out, but if you see a direct flight for a nice price like that, you should jump on it. And if fare go down a bunch (>$25) in the next few months, you simply call the airline and ask for the better fare; they'll just give a credit on the airline. Now if it is more convenient to fly out of PVD, you are probably better off waiting for a little while. But don't wait too long or the current low fares (IMO) will be all gone.

The dirt-cheap fares we have enjoyed in the past few years are no longer realistic, if the airlines want to survive. I expect we will be seeing this level of pricing for a while, with less frequent fare sales and fare wars, as the airlines move towards the SWA model.
