In case you missed prior conversation, we will set up an account at most likely SmugMug to share pictures that we have taken. We will be able to upload our own pictures that we would like to share with others. Other participants can download these pictures if they have some that don't come out, forgot their camera for that special shot, or there are some simply better than the ones they took.

Look into Picassa on google as well. It's what we use. If photos are compressed I'm not aware. Plus it's easy to either print from Picassa or export out to any of the photo printing websites.
Thanks for everyone's patience with Jeff and I right now. Seriously thought with school ending for the semester I would have some free time. I was sadly mistaken! Thankfully this is the last weekend for hardcore little league umpiring (unless Jeff is asked to go umpire Regionals in GA).
FYI, we will be at WDW multiple times for F&W if anyone wants to meet up. We're going for a long weekend in October and then a few other times. The October trip will be with Jack. Others may not be.

Jen, we'll be there from September 25- October 2nd if you happen to be in the neighborhood - LOVE to meet you all!

Wow, for that kind of price count me in. but because we're opposite, hardly remember to take pictures.

i guess i'm starting to get overwhelmed but all the stuff going on with this board. it's exciting to talk to people this way but i'm afraid i'm terrible with names and faces. will someone at sonme time summarize the actual things - FE numbers and then room numbers, and something about bracelets and if there's "parties" (any kind of meet ups) where we meet each other around the ship.
It's going to be fine! Don't worry. The room numbers are on the website - Jeff even marked them on a map for us, and the people in the FE will be marked in some manner.

Got ya down. That puts us up to 8 people so far. That would be $5/person for the basic or $7.50/person for the upgrade even if no one else joins (the more the better though!). Don't even know if we'd need the upgrade. Robin, do you remember which one y'all used on your other cruise?
We'll get way more than that - A lot more disser's will show up as it gets closer. I'll put your info on the first page of the thread too. What will we call it - Photo share?

this is a LARGE group of people who will surely take a ton of photos. No matter what photo hosting site you use, one account WILL end up using all of the space allotted since so many people are here and will be uploading photos.

i would consider using photobucket. you can set it up to be password protected (such as disney1 for PCCruiseday1, disney2 for PCCruiseday2, etc).

Make a new account for each day of the sailing. For example:
PCCruiseday1
PCCruiseday2
PCCruiseday3
etc

Then, each dis-boarder would create their own personal folder for that day. So then, within PCCruiseday1, you'd have these folders:
sak0526
tammi0220
jenkatt
etc

Then, each user can choose to make subfolders within their own folder, such as:
First Dinner
Golden Mickeys show
Dolphin Excursion
etc
Of course, you can forgo these subfolders if you don't have the time or patience. you can just upload all of your photos from that day in one swoop. but ifyou are ultra photo organized like myself, subfolders are really nice! and can help people navigate through your pictures easier. but it's optional.

Sounds complicated, but it's not when you get in and see it. If someone wants to spearhead trying to set up the first one, to see if it is something the group might like, let me know and i'll help you.

Also, photos are not compressed that I am aware of, and it's FREE!
Yes, we will more than likely have lots of people that want to share photos. But the nice thing about SmugMug is they allow unlimited storage, photos are NOT compressed as they are on free sites like photobucket, shutterfly, etc. Also, we can set up the account at SmugMug so that outsiders can't access our photos.
from the SmugMug website said:
Great things SmugMug offers that free sites don't:

  • No ads or promotions surrounding your photos.
  • Unlimited storage and traffic.
  • Ability to retrieve your photos anytime.
  • No requirement for your visitors to register.
  • No threat of losing your photos if you don't buy prints.
  • No reducing resolution of your photos like at free sites.
  • No "free for a few photos, expensive for more" plans like Picasaweb's.
  • Ability to view big, clear photos.
  • Gorgeous themes to personalize your galleries.
  • Full-screen slideshows.
  • Real, knowledgeable & friendly humans to answer your emails quickly.
  • More safety for your photos. Pay sites rarely close; many free sites—even from Yahoo, HP, Canon and Microsoft—have closed.
When this was done for the last PC cruise, there was a gallery set up for each day of the cruise as well as pre-cruise meets, DL before and WDW after (because that cruise went the other direction.)

I really don't. For some reason I thought we were told the cost for a year was $150. But looking at the SmugMug site I can't see how, unless costs went down. And I've searched the old threads trying to find anything about it and can't, so I'm thinking the discussion took place on the message board set up specifically for that cruise - which is no longer available.

We'll be around. Let us know when you're coming. I know DS would love to meet Jack!

Hi all..just a quick check in...my Sister lost her job this week so we had an emergency trip to Az. on Wed. to pack up her apartment to turn around and bring her back to California today. Very stressful week...just wanted to catch up.

Have a great weekend!

I noticed they have an option for $150/yr but it seemed to be more for professionals. I think one of the other two options would be find.

Please count us in as well. I think this is a great idea to get an awesome variety of pics!

Count us in too. Can't have enough pictures.

You can add Jeff and I to the Smug Mug list. We won't post all of our pictures there (many of our group are not on DIS), but we will post what we can. I'm a picture taker, we usually take around 1000 to 2000 pictures on our long vacations. That was pre-Jack though, so I think we'll be taking more. Thank goodness for 4G image cards.

We are going to take an extra 2G card.. We can watch them via our Wii but only on the 2g and below. We too use Picassa too. We got our tickets for Oct. IOA and our season resident tickets saved $40 with AAA. We are also thinking of getting the new Kindle. Anyone have a Kindle good bad?

Got y'all added. :thumbsup2

Please add us to the SmugMug photo sharing please. Sounds great!

Izma

I am interested in bracelets also if you have any more info! Thanks.

Please add ChipperMerlin to the SmugMug list. We take pix, but would like to have access to some that we might miss.

Can't wait for the cruise - in the meantime, the Princess half of GoofPrincess and I are going to DL on August 10th. I'm a team leader for the 9/5 Half Marathon and HAVE TO GO TO DL for the meeting. Such a burden! LOL!

GoofPrincess & ChipperMerlin families will be at WDW in September. Hope some of you might be there then, too. Is anyone taking the DVC member cruise from 9/12-16? What about attending the Halloween party on 9/18? Inquiring minds want to know.
Shirley

We are also thinking of getting the new Kindle. Anyone have a Kindle good bad?

I don't have a Kindle, but I've had a Sony Reader PRS-505 for over a year and 1/2. I love it and now can't figure out how I managed to travel without one. :)

The only negative I've encountered is that I no longer have books to pass along to flight attendants and crew members after I've finished them.

My 505 doesn't have wifi or 3g so I get all my books by sideloading off my home computer but I really don't mind. I can borrow up to 6 at a time from my local library system and I've got a collection of over 100 titles currently sitting on my reader so it's not like I'm danger of running out of reading material before I can download some more.

I'll pass on the photoshare. I'm not a pictures person at all. I'll probably bring my camera on the cruise, but I really don't think I'll use it much. I've already got pics of the canal from 2005. <G>
