Hope you are all ok, hols were fine, glad to be home though. Done some serious walking, jelly legs.:rolleyes1 and belly, lol

Geez Alan, you on vacation or something?? ;) Sounds like a plan.

:welcome: MickeysMouse and to your mom as well.

Well, I have some sad news to report - our Princess cruise for DH's family reunion will probably be canceled. Some are worried that Grandma will have health issues (she is 88 so understandable) and that it would just be too much for her. I have kind of been bracing myself for the news and it hasn't officially been nixed but I am preparing myself. So, in my sadness over that - I booked California Grill for Wednesday night at 7:35. Drinks, fireworks and then dinner. Works for me, and it takes some of the sting out.

Then I will have to decide where we are going to stay. OKW is my favorite but there are many resorts that I have not tried. We shall see.

That's a bummer! So, is Grandma failing? IF she's not - "they" better ask HER before they cancel. IF Grandma ain't happy, ain't nobody gonna be happy. I HOPE she is well, and it's only "them" getting cold feet.

So, you not only walked seriously, you maybe ATE seriously?

Went to an 80 bd party here yesterday. It was great. I made the photo board for her, her sons both gave moving little speeches, and a good time was had by all.

Today is REST day, before we start running again.

The cruise was booked with her blessing but all the cancelling discussion is going on behind her back. Lots of lobbying and politics that I have no time for. But, she has been in the hospital twice in the last 2 months but is now currently in the assisted living part of her retirement home so hopefully there will be 'eyes' on her so the issues do not reoccur.

Enjoy a peaceful day. I hope that Bruce is getting some better each day.

Hello everyone. We are booked on this cruise and looking forward to planning with you. I am Valerie and my other half is Bob. We live in San Francisco and are thrilled the Disney is bringing a boat to our side of the country. It looks like you have been very busy for sometime with the planning. Hope you don't mind us joining in at this later date. Is there a thread you suggested we refer to that would bring us up to speed? Val

Welcome to all the new people....

There really isn't a way to get "caught up" at this point, just ask questions and we'll fill you in. Many of us have been planning for this trip and talking about it here for almost a year now!
For everyone new, be sure to look at the cruise website (the link is in my signature) and PM TigfanJeff with your info/ pic to be added.

About the website, Jeff knows he's far behind updating it. Little League season is in it's final weeks before the LL World Series starts up, so he's been very busy umpiring all of the local games to get the kids to the LLWS. He should be doing the state level games and being done with it in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, be patient with him, he'll get there!

Hi and welcome Val and Bob. I am Marilyn and there will be just me and my husband John. We did this cruise in May 2008 and just loved it so much we had to do it again. we are looking forward to the 2 different ports, and spending the Panama Canal crossing day differently.

Welcome Val and Bob. Just jump in, ask questions. Check out the cruise website.

We are just south of you in San Jose. It will be myself, DH (Neil), and our two kids.

Marilyn (and anyone else who has done the PC crossing before). How would you recommend spending PC day? Any suggestions on how to get the most educational experience from that day for the kids? (I am sure they would stay in the clubs all day if we let them:rotfl2:).

On the crossing day, be all over the ship. Yes you want to go up to deck 10 and be on top, but one of the best places to see the lock is from Deck 4, depending on which lock it is and whether you are going up or down in it, you'll start on Deck 4 being walled off by the lock and slowly rise to above it (or vice versa).
As for education, in '05 they had an expert on board telling us all about the lock, stuff on TV, etc. Honestly, just seeing it is educational. I can't wait for DS to see the trains pulling the boat - he might just explode. He loves trains and boats. We got a kid's book about the Canal from the library and he got so excited looking at it.

You will get mixed responses here. On the '08 one we went to the front of Deck 10 and had a great time with all the other folk. You do have to get there early, though not as early as you think. They serve drinks and pastries from early. I stayed there for ages as i was enjoying all the company and fun, but John left after the first lock I think and thoroughly enjoyed going round the ship and even from the verandah. People are leaving frequently, leaving spaces for great photos from the front.

I wouldn't have missed that time at the front, but i think I would have left earlier. Obviously being our second time I don;t think i would bother with the front of the ship, but somehow there is something about it for a first time.

I think going through a lock from a lower deck would be fun. Also they had an ex PC pilot onboard and his commentary was broadcast over the ship. The front camera was shown from the big TV screen on deck and on the stateroom TV's, so no need to miss anything.

I'm so glad you asked that!!!! I was just thinking the exact same thing.

We'll have two verandah staterooms. So we'll probably watch from there part of the time and up on deck 10 as well.

Just a quick Hello to all the new peeps - Welcome Aboard!

I'm off to see Toy Story 3 for my nephews 3rd birthday.

Totally agree. We were on deck 4 as we approached the first lock and saw them board the ship, we walked back and forth from port to starboard to get the full experience (and to stay cool!) and also went up to deck 9 & 10. We waited to go the front of the ship until the second set of locks, mostly because we couldn't get to the front in the morning. After we went through the first set of locks, we went to the back of the ship, I believe it's deck 7 that has the deck out back? We watched the lock close and then saw people walking across it. We then went up to deck 9 and got a great picture of us with the locks in the background. In 05 they were serving free Mimossos on deck 9/10, so hoping they do that again. What a great way to start the canal day...yum! We had a verandah on deck 6 in 05 so we ate lunch in our room. This time we are on deck 2 but I'm still looking forward to going back to our room to look through our porthole and watch as we go below the wall.

I hope you are bringing your tissues. Also a big hearty hello to the new people, unless you are Giants fans. Just kidding. As for Canal day again I am going to be the one who could care less. This will be my fifth time going through so I really have the been there done that attitude. I am hoping they do a BBQ on deck 9 like in years past. I an just looking forward to a nice day. I know I will be hanging a bit in my friends room on his navigators verandah making our own drinks. I think Jen is having a party too, so I will most likely hit that up as well.

Dodger fan huh?? We aren't big Giant fans, go to the games occasionally. Actually, Bob is from Southern California, Palos Verdes and Long Beach, so when I got him he was a Dodger fan. Now I think he likes the hot dogs and beer more then the team on the field (don't tell him I said that.)

We are going through the canal mostly because it is something he has always wanted to do. I booked the trip the first day they were taking reservations, from Epcot, after getting off a Disney cruise. We were a day to early to book onboard.

Maybe we'll get to say hello at Cali Grill! Our reservations are for 9:00. We are going to see the fireworks first at MK then walking over- if you are still there, we might see you! Anyone else having dinner there the night before? To me, dinner with a view of the castle is the best way to get excited the night before the cruise!

Yes I am a huge Dodger fan, but I am a huge baseball fan in general. It is by far the sport I love the most. I think it is cool that you booked from EPCOT. I was on my phone for a hour and a half on the day they opened up for Gold CC members right at the time they opened. We are going to be doing B2B on the Wonder on 10/14 and 10/17 and hope the 2012 dates do not open while we are on the ship.

Nope our dinner is at Boma. Still trying to get 'Ohana. Maybe they will have finally downloaded the dinner info into the system this week.
