We will be driving from my DM's house for our next trip to Disney World. The last time I drove from Tuscaloosa AL to Disney World was in college over 20 years ago. We took Alabama highways all the way to FL and then interstates after that. However, google maps and others suggest using interstates the whole way, driving to Atlanta and then down. This adds mileage to the trip, but also takes like 20 minutes less time. However, I can never trust the time, because you never know what could happen on the road.

So my question is. Are there any people from Tuscaloosa out there and how have you driven to Disney World in the past.

Thanks.

I am graduating from UA in December and driving down to WDW to participate in the college program and will be driving from T-Town as well. Would love to know an answer

Do not take take I-20 in Georgia. I-20 is CLOSED west of the city because of massive flooding.

There trips are much later this year, so I-20 (hopefully) will have dried out by then.

Congrats on doing the college program. That sounds like so much fun. And ROLL TIDE.

ROLL TIDE!!!!

Not sure if this helps any but I live in Northwest, Alabama and we always take interstate 65 to Montgomery, then 231 to interstate 10, over to 75 and then the turnpike. Not sure if this is the best way anymore but it's just the way I'm use to going due to numerous trips to Vero Beach to visit family as a kid. Just try plugging in Dothan or 231 in on mapquest or whatever you use and it will give you a breakdown.

Given the possible traffic of Atlanta, coupled with possible construction delays of I75 through South Georgia, I would think it best to go your usual route. That 20 minute savings on Google could turn into an hour longer if the planets are aligned wrong.

We are in East Alabama (Anniston/Oxford area) and we prefer I-20 to Atlanta the I-75 South straight to Orlando. However, our DS and likes to go down Hwy 431 to Columbus GA and over to I-75.
There's really not that much difference time-wise, because the shorter way is smaller 2 and 4 lane highways so you can't go as fast. It really just depends on if you prefer Interstates or smaller highways.
