Wednesday 9th March
I awoke on Wednesday morning realising it was time to go home! This made me verrrry sad. We got up about half eight and went down for a hot chololate and a croissant from Starbucks. I still cannot believe how much people in the USA rely on Starbucks, at one point we were about 20th in a que!
After breakfast we had a stroll to the Adidas shop and I managed to spend a small fortune in there....while my brother panicked 'are you gonna get all that in your case'! I think everyone has these usuall packing worries haha!
We headed over the bridge to the Hooters hotel, as Warren wanted to get a t-shirt. We did nearly stay at this hotel, and wondering round it we are so glad that we didnt. There really are the classy and the not so classy sides of Vegas, although I understand not everyone can afford to stay at the nicer hotels.
It was absolutely baking hot aswell which made my not wanting to come home even worse, although it got better when part two of the press conference for the boxing was on, so we managed to catch abit of that....but then it was that time to go home
We did a final check of the room and checked we hadnt left anything, before heading down to the lobby to get a taxi. Now the time in Vegas was about 1pm....and our flight wasnt until 4:30pm...so my brother was giving the line 'ahhh we may aswell just get there, then we can have a stroll round the airports and the shops, that will kill a few hours'.....
If only that was the case!
When we got checked in and through customers in 15 minutes, I started to have a really strange feeling that Las Vegas airport was small....when we got through to the gate I realised it was even smaller than I thought!
Las Vegas airport litterally had 6-7 shops/food outlets....and they were all tiny!!! Anyone who ever has been to this airport, will understand my pain of having to spend 3 1/2 hours in there!!
Before we knew it though we were being called to our flight, hoping it was going to be as quiet as the flight out....and unfortunately for me we were sat in the middle row with two people next to us!
BUT THEN......as soon as we had taken off, the couple next to us moved seats!!! And the following happened....
It was alot shorter flight coming home I think it was about 9 hours and Virgin were just as bad coming home as they were going out, but it was a pretty uneventful flight and we were back at Gatwick before we knew it....and the worst part of the holiday was about to come. I think we landed at Gatwick just before 11am.....and because we were trying to get there cheaply, we booked to come home on the Megabus!
If you take one peice of advice from me out of this report, NEVER and i repeat NEVER come home on the Megabus after a 9 hour flight. We got back to Preston at 9pm at night, after a five hour coach trip where i was sat next to a toilet and a couple who couldnt keep there hands off each other.....by the time I got off the coach I was ready for my bed and a shower!!!
But it was deffinatley worth the bad coach trip!!!!
A Few words from myself
Well its that time again where I try and entertain my fellow DSers with a trip report! I do think its been abit rushed as ive tried to do it while ive been off work and ive probably missed loads, because a) i have a bad memory and b) I had quite a few cocktails over there! But thanks again for reading and I hope ive inspired you to go to Vegas! I will finish with a few good/bad point summarys incase you cant be bothered reading my report and have just looked at me and my brothers ugly mugs in our pics!
The Good
The MGM Grand - Although the staff werent the friendliest, the hotel and its facilities were incredible. Also we liked the hotels location as it seemed to be just about in the middle of everything.
The Boxing - Being a massive boxing fan, I loved the boxing heritage here. Meeting Don King & Bob Arum was one of the highlights of any holiday I have been on.
The Drinking & The Casinos - I loved everything about these! They were so different than what I expected and although a lot of drinking is done in LV, I never saw any trouble or even any 'loutish' behaviour, it just seemed everyone was there to have a good time.
Fun with my Brother - We always go on these trips with an attitude just to have fun and like Florida last year, we had bags of fun in Las Vegas
The Bad
Virgin - I know its my yearly rant, but im sure there getting worse and worse. The standard of service, food and even the planes are dreadful. If we didnt claim Virgin points we deffinatley wouldnt be using them. I think Mr Branson needs to sort himself out!
Air Con - I know we were in the desert, but woaaah the air con drove me mental out there. It was everywhere you went and it wrecked my lips!!!
The Walking - As you can probably tell, we walked miles and miles and miles! Although i think its my own fault for not doing my homework on the monorails and buses!
Well thats it, thanks for reading, best get planning for the next one now!!!
