We are going the end of August. What I'm thinking of doing is taking a 7:30 am Acadian bus out of Halifax to Bangor arriving at 5:50 pm. Then catching a Greyhound bus at 6:50pm from Bangor to New York arriving at 4.50 am. Then catching the Amtrak train at 10 am from New York to Orlando arriving at 11 am the next day for a total of 2 days travelling. This would be for my self and my 14 year old daughter. I don't drive and with the price of flights...its is cheaper doing it this way. Has anyone gone this route? If so, how was it? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

add up the cost of your train travel first, then check out travelling to Manchester, NH and flying with Southwest or flying Allegiant air out of Portsmouth NH.They are within half hour of each other, which is about 10 hours by car from Dartmouth. Not sure if the bus will take you to Portsmouth or Manchester. Allegiant only goes to Sanford airport in Orlando.I would download Ding! from southwest's website. This will notify you each day (sometimes more than once a day) about ticket specials for various cities, including manchester-orlando. The southwest schedule is not yet available for flights after Aug 3.You may find that the cost is comparable after possibly factoring in a hotel overnight in Manchester if the bus schedule doesnt match up well with the flight times.

ok let me edit this a bit..i quickly looked up a sample round trip itinerary for you..dartmouth bangor (acadian)bangor-new york(greyhound)new york-orlando(amtrak) and its roughly coming up at about 950 Can, not including transportation form orlando-disney assuming you were staying on site (why wouldnt you right :) if you go Southwest,Dartmouth-bangor ~270 for two ppl,the bus from bangor to manchester likely will route thru boston first at about 300 Can for two ppl,add on southwest flights that hopefully will drop to 49 one way US/pp and your looking at about 750 not counting a hotel or transport from Orlando-disney.For the headache and bad "bus hair" you might be better off sucking up a few more dollars for two flights from Halifax..cheapest i see for Mid-end august is about 650 with westjet :guilty:

Hey! Welcome to the Dis, both of you!!:):)

And that's a good idea - I never thought of the bus to BGR.

Flights out of BGR are typically in the $300 range/person...and like gawrsh said, you might be able to do the bus/SW out of Manchester combo, too:)

Let us know what you find out :goodvibes

thanks mbb,DW and i have been lurking way too long.If she reads this then she'll slap me upside the head cuz i get all my info from her :teeth:

With the route that I'm thinking of taking it will be 448.00 cad taxes included one way and there would be no hotel expenses. With Acadian lines they have student rate and with Amtrak they have a child under the age of 15 rate whereas with airlines its adult fare for them over the age of 11. One way with canjet is 611 and with west jet its 702.

Have you priced flying from Bangor? I think there are a couple of reasonably priced carriers flying out of there. Would save the second bus ride and Amtrak.

Holy smolies! That's a lot for O/W...

We use www.itasoftware.com to search for flights
www.kayak.com is good too..

If you want to give us your dates, we can all search too:teeth:
(Nothing I like better than the thrill of the chase for cheapo flights!! LOL!)

The price is for both me and my 14 year old together. And the dates are Aug. 24 to Sept. 2.

I'm picking up $1135 with Continental, out of YHZ for your dates..
United had the same fares, too.

A little extra $$, but sooooo much faster than driving:)

I'd be curious to know how the bus transfers, and stations along the way are, too.

HTH!!

If I were you, I'd keep checking airfares. That is a long trip and it will still cost you a fair bit. If you keep checking, you may get a seat sale in the next few months. Westjet often has deals, especially on Sundays. You can subscribe to their website and you will be notified of any deals. For the difference in transportation costs, I would fly. Then you will be at Disney World longer! :cool1:
