originally we were flying down two days prior to cruise and just hang out at the hotel near the port, but then i figured why not make the most of the 2 days before, then just get up and drive to the port on Sun morning, how far is the drive or how long is the drive from let's say wdw, i am thinking why waste the two days especially if there is not much to do near the port- does this make sense to anyone or am i confusing you-

WDW to the port is about 60 minutes...give or take 10-15 minutes depending on traffic

thanks so much, if we leave at 8am that should be enough time right? is it pretty easy to get there from wdw on the espressway

and plan on doing it again this Nov.

I believe we left Sheraton Safari (DTD area) around 9:15 am and arrived at the port around 10:00/10:15. They had us pull into the parking lot across from the pier, where we got in line (approx 10 cars in front of us). At around 10:30 they started us across the street to the port, they have security staff checking names/id's with the ship roster. Once we cleared that, DH dropped the 2 kids and I and the luggage off, parked at the pier long term parking (very easy), walked back over and met us upstairs in the check-in area. It probably took him a total of 5 minutes, to pay, park and walk back over. Check in was very, very easy

Enjoy!

We have done it exactly like Disneyagain a few times and other times we have stayed the night before in the port area....just depends on what we felt like at the time.

Don't get to the port too early (before 10...) or you will be just cooling your heels waiting to be let into the parking lot.

Yes, and it's a long wait if someone in your party has to go to the bathroom. No not the kids, DH...that's probably why it only took him 5 minutes to pay, park the car and get up to the terminal. He moves real fast when he needs/wants to! :rotfl2:

well i am afraid of getting lost, so i figure if we arrive too early we can do breakfast or something

It's an easy trip, but I'll share the warning the CM told us-

follow the signs to PORT Canaveral not CAPE Canaveral--the Port comes first!

HTH! :flower:

It is really easy from WDW. Leaving at 8am is too early. (9am would be better).

Directions are easy. As you leave WDW look for the Airport signs (Small aircraft symbols) You want to get to the Greeneway (SR 417) and follow it past the airport exit and Narcoossee Road to the Beeline Exit (SR528 East) It is a straight shot on the Beeline to the Port. The only place you could go wrong is the split you are talking about. It is right after crossing the St Johns river and you want to veer right. Both the right and left lanes allow you to go right. The signs before the split will show a ship and a space shuttle. Follow the ship sign. After that, stay on 528 until you see the Magic!

If you're flying down, and spending two days at WDW, you might want to consider turning in the rental car that morning and taking the DCL bus. It's such a relief to have your luggage taken care of (you don't see it again till onboard) and the DCL video shown on the bus gets everyone even more excited.

I'm usually worried about getting lost. The road signs in the central florida area suck!!!! Easy to get miss directed. And once you take a turn off by following the signs, you get dumped somewhere and have to guess which way to go!!

Remember in Orlando the North / South road actually go east and west and the East / West road go north and south. I've never been able to figure that one out.

But once you are on the road to Port Canaveral and all thats left of the Orlando area is in your rear view mirror, It's pretty easy to get to the coast and the port. They even have a HUGE sign that points the way AND once you're that close, you can see the ship and keep your berings and get to her!!

We allow 1:15 from the All Star / MGM area of WDW to make it to the port.

:cool1: We are doing the same thing before our cruise on 10-15-05. Except we are renting a car and then dropping it off at Port Canveral. They have a free shuttle to take us to Port. :rotfl: We decided to add 2 days to our trip and spend them at POR. So I plan on leaving around 9:00 am. If we arrive at Port early we can always grab a little something to eat and then drop the car off.
I just know I want to be at the DCL port by 10:30.
