Anyone going to WDW from Eastern Canada? Looking for lower airfares? Try PanAm out of Bangor, they are a charter airlines which means they offer lower airfares. Much like Canada 3000. It costs $109.00 one way to Orland/Sanford airport. Don't mistake that with Orlando Iinternational, because its not. Its 25 to thirty miles out of the city. But in Canadian dollars it cost us $668.00 Canadian for two people roundtrip the third week of Sept./01. Thats cheap compared that it cost us $588.00 per person Cdn last time flying Canada 3000 from Moncton. There are two rental car companies at the airport, Alamo and Dollar. The airport code for Sanford is (SFB) if you want to try and investigate prices for car rental. Try Expedia.ca they give their prices in Canadian dollars. Budget, Avis and Hertz also have shuttles from the Sanford airport that take you to their rental locations, so your not stuck for ground transportation. I rented from Alamo directlly through their site. I got "quickrent", which allows us to swipe our credit card into a slot in a "ATM" type of machine, it gives us a printout of where we can locate our car and when we leave with the car we just have to stop at the security gate to show my husbands drivers license, printout from the machine and the credit card and were on our way. Beats having to wait in line at the rental counters. Since were staying in Kissimmee we'll only have to make the trip on our arrival and when we have to leave so its no big deal. My travel agent here in New Brunswick told me that she can't book us through PanAm because their aa charter airlines, meaning they'd make no money on it. PanAm doesn't show up as a choice when you go on places like Expedia.ca or Yahoo Travel. You have to contact them yourself. Go onto the Bangor Airport site, click under fares and schedules and you'll see a link to PanAm. We booked ours online and while you don't get sent any airline tickets, (E-tickets) you have to bring valid government (drivers license with photo on it) with you when you check in. Now the only thing to remember is to be at the PanAm desk (first level at Bangor Airport) early, because if you leave it twenty minutes or less to arrive at the check in desk, you lose your seat and the price of your airline tickets (no compensation, unless you get the insurance). We didn't get the insurance ourselves. I booked our hotel rooms through Expedia.ca. Again we got rooms at the Quality Inn on Lake Cecile for $34.95 US which amounts to $53.75 Cdn. Or you can go directly to the Days Inn Site-Orlando(Lakeside) and they have a special on till the end of Sept. for $24.95 a night, plus $2.92 a night for local calls and such...totals $28.00 per night US which amounts to $44.00 Cdn funds. But you have to book now for Sept. if you want to get the deals. We asked our car insurance agent to add on a clause on our policy ( for when we book car rentals in the U.S.) that allows us to transfer our car insurance coverage at home to our rental car in the States. Obviously you can't let anyone drive your car when your away. But...It only costs $20.00 a year but its worth it. It was a "SEF". If your going to rent a economy or compact car thats fine, but if your going to rent something more expensive like a corvette or sports car, you need to upgrade your SEF to cover the cost of the vehicle if your in an accident and your found at fault. Cost $40.00 a year, still worth it. Take a copy of your car insurance policy with you in case of a accident, add on the SEF clause before you leave as it can be added on anytime, make sure your drivers license has your picture on it and has the same address on it as the billing address for the credit card you may use, and take medical insurance with you. Someone we know went down to the states and had a heart attack. He was in his forties. He is still getting bills from them. At last count they added up to $70,000.00 and are still coming in. He had medical insurance so he doesn't have to worry about where hes going to get the money to pay them. The cost through CIBC (bank) for two of us for eight days is $33.00. Well worth it.
Good luck!
