From Ahoy To Aloha- Our May 2025 Disney Adventures! July TR 7/8!

That is crazy! I hope the person was okay 🙏

I love it, especially when I'm in bed going to sleep at night. Just rocks me right to sleep!
I know! Once we realized what that code meant we felt so bad- that would be such a nightmare!! And YES! It totally rocked me to sleep and I loved it!
Sounds like everything made for an interesting first night! But at least you're finally moving!
Definitely was an interesting first night of our first cruise ever  Getting moving finally allowed me to fully relax!
Wow!! Did you ever find out why the ship left so late?

Hahaha I am guilty of doing this to my husband, too. He always sleeps later than me and I am sitting there like a puppy waiting for him to stir.

OMG. We recently found out we are expecting - my very first thought was "uh oh we need more DVC points" and my second "OMG we have a cruise planned when the baby will be 8 months, HE CAN DO THE DIAPER DASH!!!!" Parenting dream come true, honestly.

Oooo nice! I got a very similar one from our cruise on the Wish and it is pretty much my favorite article of clothing.

So glad you started to feel better!! Can't wait to read more!
Sooooo the chatter on board seemed to think that it was something maintenance-wise that wasn't up to code- people were saying that the sprinkler system wasn't fully functioning and Coast Guard flagged that! But we never found out for sure... so weird!!

AHHHH congratulations!!!!! :lovestrucThat is so exciting!! I love the way you think :rotfl:The whole time during the Diaper Dash, I kept thinking "Ethan (my nephew) would absolutely kill at this!"

I don't know if I could take Bonine during the day! I only ever take it at bedtime, and it lasts all day. I hope that was the only time you felt yucky!
Can't wait to hear what you thought of Castaway!
It was thank goodness- but I definitely continued to feel drowsy during the cruise. Definitely a lesson learned- sometimes less is more!! I took it at night during our Universal days while at WDW and felt a teeny bit drowsy but not nearly as much, so I think I finally have it down now
Cruising is definitely addictive!

I wonder what the issue was!

Just why...?! Parents BE PARENTS!

Trivia will always use the lesser-knowns to separate the wheat from the chaff.

UGH!

It absolutely can; I used this trick in the Recovery Room a ton with puking post-op patients. Always tried that before Zofran and it often worked!

I love this!!! So fun meeting like-minded, easy-to-be-with people!

It's got the rave reviews for sure. Next time Imma try that one.

I approve of this plan.

HAHA!! So fun!

I was pretty enamoured with the chandelier on the Dream too. :cloud9:

OH my heck!!! That is hilarious!

I absolutely love this about DCL (and other cruiselines too!)!!
So we never got an official reason why we left so late, but people were saying that it was the sprinkler system!! Something about it not functioning fully or being up to par, and Coast Guard was doing a thorough inspection before the Transatlantic sailing so everything had to be perfect! Definitely made for a weird first night  We were so confused with it being our first ever cruise!!

I still can't believe that smelling rubbing alcohol can have such a strong effect on nausea. I feel like smelling alcohol has the opposite effect on me (PTSD from too much Tito's in college????)
I completely understand this. People think I am crazy when I tell them that I can feel the boat move while we are docked. It is like you said, it is not rocking just like a small sway or something.

I loved all the CM's on Disney. I had to leave dinner early our first night. I didn't even make to the food coming out before I felt sick and ran up several flights of stairs to get to our room. We saw our server the next morning at Cabanas and he came over to check on me and give me some tricks of the trade. That first night I was in the room when the person that cleans the room came in. She then checked on me all week when she saw me out and about. The customer service is just so much better than other cruises.
We were so lucky that we didn't feel anything after we disembarked. One of my good friends and her husband just did a Greek Isles cruise for a week, and they claimed that they still felt the swaying almost a week after they got home!! I was so worried about that!

Ugh, that stinks that you felt so sick but I'm so happy that they took such good care of you. Disney CM's are really the cream of the crop!!!!!

“Sea” Trip- Day 3, Part 2!

Where I last left off, Jake and I were getting ready for a fun evening at sea!

We decided to skip the show tonight, which was Frozen. Neither Jake nor I are huge Frozen people, and we had our eye on two different trivias we wanted to try out instead

Our first trivia was TV Theme Song Trivia at 6:15- located in The Tube!

This trivia was HARD!! We only got a 10 out of 20 correct, and we were in the top four groups!!! Jake came in clutch with a couple answers, but a lot of these shows were really obscure. We were hoping that the future trivias weren’t going to be this difficult!

Once our first trivia was over, we took a little walk outside on Deck 4. It was a gorgeous night and the sea was very calm!!

We also had to run back to the room for something, and found these cute chocolate coins on our bed!

We were trying to figure out what our towel animal was. People were saying it was Barbosa from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies!

Then, at 7:30 PM, we were back at The Tube for 90’s Music Trivia!

Jake and I ordered drinks before trivia started.

Jake went with a Strawberry Guava Topo Chico seltzer...

Still keeping up with his serious pirate personna. I got a Tuppenny Tube, which was VeeV Acai Liqueur, Grand Marnier, Agave Nectar, Ginger, and Freshly Squeezed Lime Juice!

This was ok! It wasn’t super strongly flavored; it kind of just tasted like a generic “berry” flavor, which was a shame because I love ginger, acai, and Grand Marnier!

Luckily, 90’s Music Trivia was much easier but not too easy, which is exactly how trivia should be!!! The young lady running this was so cute; she was Australian and her name was Izzy, and she kept saying “Get Quizzy with Izzy!” We had her again for 2000’s Music Trivia the next night and everyone loved her; she was so funny and a great host!

These were our answers!! We got a 36/40, which we were pretty proud of but it wasn’t enough to win- two groups got 100% and we had a tiebreaker!

I’m usually not very competitive, but after coming so close, I was DETERMINED to win a trivia this trip. Would it happen???

It was so funny- you can see that the answer to #19 was “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion. Immediately, once they started playing it, everyone was like “Why on EARTH are you playing this song on a cruise ship?!?” :rotfl: Izzy said that she would give a free DCL key chain to every couple who acted out the “I’m Flying” scene from Titanic…

0_CTJNRzvl8UDyyJ9V.gif

Well, I am NOT one to turn down a challenge and free Disney merch!! So, Jake and I stood up right away and went full out (minus the make-out session )!! Izzy tossed us a key chain and I was very proud. ::yes::

Trivia let out right at 8:00, which was perfect timing for us to head right to dinner! Dinner tonight was at Animator’s Palate.

Out of all of the restaurants on the Fantasy, I was most excited to check out this one! Animator’s Palate is the OG DCL restaurant- they have it on the first four ships and it’s absolutely iconic!! We were immediately impressed upon walking inside.

Animator’s Palate is “art” themed with sketches all over the walls and lots of paint brushes/paint palates. The inside of the restaurant is so colorful and there were screens showing the characters from Finding Nemo! It reminded me a lot of the theming at Lamplight Lounge over at DCA!

Even the butter knife was a tiny paintbrush!!! I loved it!

We had fun catching up with Brad and Cassie and hearing all about their sea day. Since I had pre-ordered my food the night before, everything was easy-peasy for me tonight!

For my appetizers, I decided on the Butternut Squash Soup and the Goat Cheese Tomato Tarte.

The soup was terrible; it tasted like baby food and had absolutely no salt or any other seasoning. But the Tomato Tarte was great; like a pizza on a croissant crust!

Then, for my main meal, I got the Herb-Crusted Pork Chop with Sun Dried Tomato Risotto.

Now, THIS was delicious. It was by far my favorite entree I had for the entire cruise!!! The pork was tender and the risotto was the perfect texture and flavor. I practically licked my plate clean!

During dinner, Crush from Finding Nemo came by to chat with the guests!

Not gonna lie, it was a little awkward and not a lot of people participated. Jake and I have never done Turtle Talk with Crush at Epcot, and after this, Jake was like “I’m good, I'm good, I don’t need to do it." :scared:

Pretty soon, dessert came! I got the Lemon Icebox Pie.

Once again, this was SO yummy!!!!! The filling was so creamy and a perfect lemon-y vanilla without being too sour. I was soooo full but I finished this as well; it was too good not to!!

Overall, Animator’s Palate was both Jake and I’s favorite dining spot of the cruise; and it won by a landslide!!!

Before we left, Pepe brought over the menu for Enchanted Garden so that I could order my food in advance for our last night. He mentioned that they were trying out a new menu for the Transatlantic and Mediterranean itineraries coming up!

I was very impressed with the menu; Jake and I love Mediterranean food and it was a nice switch up from your standard chicken/steak/pork/etc. However, when I checked the Facebook group after we disembarked, a lot of people were complaining about this menu! Jake and I were like :confused3 LOL!

By the time we were done for dinner, it was 9:30 PM, so we headed up to Deck 11 for the Pirate Night Party!!

I had fun taking pictures of all of the beautiful chandeliers on this ship!

We grabbed a great spot right by the kid’s pool deck to watch the performance! It was a really cute show with lots of characters and fun music. Definitely kid-friendly but Jake and I didn’t mind. :) I think that adults-only cruisers would be fine skipping this show, but since it was our first time, we wanted to see ALL of the things!

Don’t skip the fireworks at sea, though, they were awesome!!

Jake and I were still way too full from dinner for any late-night drinks or snacks in Europa! So, we just returned to the stateroom to watch some TV and head to bed. We wanted to be well-rested for our big day at Castaway Cay tomorrow!!!

Oh, and I’m happy to say that the “wiggling” rocking was really nice while laying down and helped me fall asleep quickly. You guys weren’t kidding about the ship literally rocking you to sleep. :cloud9:

Jake and I have never done Turtle Talk with Crush at Epcot, and after this, Jake was like “I’m good, I'm good, I don’t need to do it." :scared:
You still need to do it but I would say with kids. We didn't do it when it was just Jeff and I because it felt weird. Crush interacts with the kids as they sit in the front. He has the kids ask questions and it is pretty funny what some kids ask. It is a great show.

You had some great luck at Animator's Palate! Bummer the soup wasn't very good, but the rest sounded awesome!

Jake and I were still way too full from dinner for any late-night drinks or snacks in Europa!
This is why we choose the early dining option! We did late dining our first cruise and were painfully full for the late night snacks!
Oh, and I’m happy to say that the “wiggling” rocking was really nice while laying down and helped me fall asleep quickly.
I just love the rocking of the ship! I agree, between that and the engine rumbling, I fall asleep so quickly!

We booked a cruise on the Wish for Labor Day weekend. I am so excited. It is a 3 nighter, but will be perfect for the kids first Disney cruise! I don't know who is more excited for the "Mickey Boat" me or them lol.

Our first trivia was TV Theme Song Trivia at 6:15- located in The Tube!
This is one of my favorites! But then I grew up watching sitcoms in the 70s, 80s, 90s!

It looks good to me too. I could fill up on Spanakopita alone!

Fun! That's exactly where I am in my TR too :goodvibes

Hi Molly! I’m excited to read about both of your trips!

I’m so excited to read about your cruise! I’ve almost (maybe?) convinced my husband to try a short Disney cruise next year. Our youngest will be three (and potty trained!) so I thought it would be great timing as she’d be eligible for the pools and the regular kids club with her sister. Grant suffers from motion sickness (and also fears catching a stomach bug from such a closed environment) so cruises are not on the top of his must-try travel list… so we’ll see if it shakes out. I know you enjoyed your time but look forward to hearing more details! (Especially since the cruise I’m looking at would be on the Fastasy!)

Also… 13 days?! That’s crazy! What a whirlwind of planning that must’ve been! I’m sorry you had such a stressful travel day but thrilled you made it to Orlando. I’m sorry the stress continued on your port arrival day (did some emergency call come in that made that guy so from serene to stressed?) but happy you made it on the ship.

(We also got a great discount due to me becoming an Annual Passholder since we are planning another WDW trip in July. But, that's a different story for a different day :rotfl:).

:rotfl:

I can’t wait to hear about another trip!

There were some sinks with soap right when you entered Cabana’s, with CMs directing everyone to wash their hands before grabbing a plate.

This is great to hear! I’ll be sure to pass it along to Grant - keep details like this coming!

(Frankly, I share Grant’s concern about stomach viruses. Our girls have managed to catch an illness, including two stomach bugs, on nearly all of our vacations in the past few years. Dealing with stomach illnesses while away from home is NOT FUN.)

Your first two days on the cruise sounded lovely! I’m glad Jake warmed to your table mates and I’m glad they found things for you to eat. Also, 90’s song trivia?! Sign me up for that! :goodvibes

Ahh good plan! Maybe on our big April 2026 trip we'll finally try it out!
You had some great luck at Animator's Palate! Bummer the soup wasn't very good, but the rest sounded awesome!
Yes!!! The food was GREAT there AND it was our favorite dining room theming-wise! Definitely a slam dunk! :)

Ahhhhh that's so exciting!! Some day I definitely want to try one ship in each "class" and see which one I like best!!! We definitely want to do DCL with the kids... someday!! Maybe a "land and sea" trip??
We did the Dream and AP was our favorite dining rotation too.
We loved both the theming and the food!! I wish they had it at WDW too!
This is one of my favorites! But then I grew up watching sitcoms in the 70s, 80s, 90s!

Nice! :thumbsup2

Yess I've been lurking but loving your TR too!!! The Treasure is such a beautiful ship- that and the Fantasy probably have my favorite theming of all the ships! Someday for sure... :cloud9: Heading back to WDW anytime soon??

Hi Jenny!!! So glad you're reading along! I was very much like your husband (afraid of motion sickness AND norovirus)- that's what took us so long to get on a cruise in the first place!!! But I'm happy to say that I loved it and can't wait to cruise again! Jake is a huge germ freak and is super-vigilant about stuff like that, and he said that this vacation was the calmest he's ever been about germs just due to HOW MUCH they promote handwashing! Everything was so clean as well!

I really hope the cruise works out for you- I feel like the Fantasy was the perfect "first ship" because it's not too big. Plus I just loved the theming of the ship and how it was just classy and fancy- not "in your face" Disney IP everywhere!

(side note- I don't know if you've been seeing all of the Netflix documentary stuff about the Carnival "poop cruise" back in 2013, but a fun fact is that Jake and his parents were BOOKED to be on that exact cruise and had to cancel last minute due to a family emergency!!!! Talk about divine intervention!!! I'm pretty sure that would have scarred him from cruises for life)! :scared:

RL Update and “Sea Trip”- Day 4, Part 1!

Hi everyone! So sorry for slacking on this TR for a bit… it’s been a CRAZY couple weeks at work and everything felt very “full moon-y” with all of the chaos! But, things are finally calming down, which is great because we are heading BACK to WDW on Wednesday (2 days from now)!!! We will be at POFQ from July 2-7!

peanuts-lucy.gif

Haley, Mom, and the kids are joining Jake and I for some park time! We will be doing Epcot on Thursday, Animal Kingdom on Friday, a pool day at POFQ on Saturday, Magic Kingdom on Sunday, and then brunch at Cape May Cafe before heading home Monday afternoon! This will be a very chill trip (no crazy rope dropping or park hopping) and we’re thrilled to be back in our happy place! I’m also excited to see all of the 4th of July festivities, since we’ve never visited WDW during this holiday before.

Let’s start with Day 4 of our “Sea Trip!” This was a day we had been VERY much looking forward to- our first time at Castaway Cay!!!! :cloud9:

Jake and I set our alarms for bright and early at 6:45 AM. Jake in particular is a huge beach person and wanted to make the most of our time at Castaway!! We had a beautiful view of this amazing island from our veranda. :lovestruc

This got us sooooo excited! It was looking like a gorgeous morning weather-wise too! We jumped into our swimsuits and headed straight for Cabanas. Jake needed some convincing (he just wanted to go right to Castaway), but I made the executive decision due to…

These little beauties. ::yes:: CHURRO MICKEY WAFFLES!!!! They are only available one morning per cruise, and I was NOT missing out! I had a delicious breakfast of fruit and waffles with coffee, while Jake had more of a smorgasbord from the buffet! Since it was so early, we got a nice spot outside and it wasn’t too crowded yet.

I loooove the look of Cabanas; it reminds me a lot of the Beach Club over at WDW!

The CM at the elevators was saying that the port was still closed, but we literally saw people getting off the ship so we knew it wasn’t true. We headed down to Deck 1 and got off the ship immediately with no line!! Woohoo!!!

I took this pic of the outside of the ship at 7:57 AM! The early bird gets the worm!! It was so cool to see the giant ship that we had been living on the past couple days.

OMG this island is so photogenic!! I couldn’t stop taking pictures!!

The shops were dead since it was so early, and Jake was eager to get some merch!! It’s rare that Jake wants to buy souvenirs (or clothes, for that matter ), so I was happy to oblige! He ended up buying two tee shirts and a baseball hat. These were such good purchases and he wears these all the time- the hat in particular!

He also eyed up the sports area and shot a few hoops! This guy can spot a basketball hoop from a mile away. :rotfl:

Since we had never been to Castaway Cay before, we decided to sit at the kid-friendly beach first to see how it compared to the adults-only beach.

I dipped my toes in the water, but HOLY COW it was COLD!!! We are used to the beaches in Hawaii where the water is so warm. But this felt like swimming in Lake Michigan!

This play area looks like so much fun for the kiddos- I know that I would have loved it as a child!

We spent about 45 minutes by the kid’s area, but to be honest, we were getting antsy to head over to Serenity Bay. :rotfl: We knew that it would be our final destination of the day and we were ready to drop our booties in the sand and just CHILL!

Since it was only about 9:00, it wasn’t too hot yet, so we decided to walk to Serenity Bay instead of taking the tram! Jake and I love to walk (that’s why we love WDW vacations so much) and we were excited to explore the island on foot.

Google says that this is just about a mile, and it felt great this morning! It was an easy walk on flat ground and we were there in no time. It helped that this walk made us work up a bit of a sweat; now we were fully ready to jump in the ocean!!

r

We were greeted with this gorgeous view. We both agreed that we liked this beach SO much better than the kid’s area… even separate from the fact that it was adult’s only. It was bigger, had more beautiful views, and was better for swimming!

There were still tons of chairs available, so we grabbed two lay-flat chairs as well as two smaller chairs for wading. Then, we jumped right in the water! It felt like a cold plunge at first, but it felt SO refreshing and we got used to it quickly.

I didn’t take any pictures this morning, just because we were in and out of the water and sand constantly! We had the most amazing weather all day today. Sunny and 80’s with a nice breeze!

Around 10:30, I grabbed some ice cream from the soft serve machine (banana flavored in a drink cup- that was my way to go on this trip) and Jake got a drink! He asked for a Mai Tai, and the server replied, “Great choice, boss, that’s the Drink of the Day!” Jake replied, “That’s music to my ears.” Readers of my TRs will know that a Mai Tai is Jake’s favorite cocktail! They also came in these nice insulated cups so that they would stay cold.

However, after drinking his Mai Tai in approximately 2 minutes, Jake proclaimed that he was THIRSTY and wasn’t sure if he could keep downing the strong Mai Tai’s all day. What he was really craving was a cold beer, and he had been eyeing up the buckets of beer that people around us were ordering. He was wishing and washing about ordering it, but knew that he would be 100% on his own with this since I don’t drink beer. I encouraged him, saying “YOLO, you’re on vacation!” I also told him that he could share with the people around him if he couldn’t physically finish all 6 beers. :thumbsup2

So… he ended up getting one!!! And was VERY happy with his decision! I think it was like $50 for 6 beers, and they stayed ice cold in the bucket all day long. It was definitely worth it for Jake during our almost 7 hours on the beach! Although, personally, I HATE beer and couldn’t imagine drinking 6 beers without projectile vomiting everywhere. :rotfl: I’m such a bad Wisconsinite! I stuck with water and soft serve as my hydration methods today.

We spent the morning swimming, walking the beach, and hanging in our sand chairs. I read a good portion of my book and also took a 30 minute snooze in my chair! The Bonine definitely made me drowsy at some point every day of the cruise.

Around 1:00, we headed over to Serenity BBQ for some lunch. Jake wasn’t hungry from his big breakfast and all the beer, but swimming always makes me STARVING and I was ready to eat!

I grabbed a burger, corn, bean salad, and some chips. This hit the spot!

I also went back to try a rib (they were all out during my first round at the buffet), as well as a famous chocolate chip cookie for dessert. The food was great here and I loved everything. The bean salad was a nice fresh option, and the toppings bar came in clutch- I doused my burger with Tzatziki!

I couldn’t believe that Jake wasn’t hungry, but trust me, he was feeling A-OK with all of those beers in his system. After lunch, we grabbed our chairs and put our feet in the ocean!

This was the way to go- it helped you stay cool and it was SO relaxing!

I love this picture so much. I feel like it could be a Corona ad!!

Since I finally had my phone out, I grabbed some pics of beautiful Serenity Bay!

This water was BY FAR the bluest and clearest water we have ever seen. It was like swimming in blue Gatorade!! We even saw a starfish! :lovestruc

After a few more dips in the water, we were ready to head out at 3:00 PM. We had done everything we wanted to and more- it was such a relaxing beach day!! This time, we took the tram back to the main area- we did NOT feel like schlepping all the way back to port in our sandy feet.

I had to send this picture to my mom- she loooooves Josh D’Amaro and thinks he’s a hunk. I'll never forget the first time she saw him on a commercial at WDW a few years ago. She was like  “That is ONE handsome man.” :rotfl:

They have an amazing photo spot here. It’s Christmas card-worthy!

Off the ship at 7:50 AM, and back on the ship at 3:35 PM! I’d say that’s a successful day at Castaway Cay!

CHURRO MICKEY WAFFLES!!!!
Yum! They are soooo good!

He also eyed up the sports area and shot a few hoops! This guy can spot a basketball hoop from a mile away. :rotfl:
I've been there seven times and have never noticed that! :rotfl:

She's not wrong 🥰

You bad Wisconsinite, you! LOL Inquiring readers (ME!) want to know if Jake finished his 6!!

It is like a Corona ad!! 🍻

I hope you DO use this on your Christmas card!! It totally captures the perfect Castaway Cay vibes!

What a lovely day at Castaway Cay! I’m glad you got to try and enjoy both beaches - I’ve never seen pictures of CC with so few people in them! I’m also not a beer fan (besides the occasional tart sour beer, I stick with wine, cocktails, or iced tea) but I’m thrilled Jake enjoyed his beer bucket.

Yum! They are soooo good!

I've been there seven times and have never noticed that! :rotfl:

She's not wrong 🥰

Perfect day!
Hahaha, that's so funny about the basketball hoops! That's how you know Jake is sports-obsessed :rotfl:

HAHA- well the Mai Tai was strong to Jake I guess!! Surprising I know! We did think that the cruise drinks were stronger than the drinks you can find in the parks! Take with that what you will :thumbsup2
I love this update! đź’—đź’—đź’— We may or may not have just booked the Disney Dream going to Castaway and Lookout Cay in January :rolleyes1 .
Ahhhhhhhh soo exciting!!!! SOMEDAY we will try out Lookout Cay!! Visiting both islands sounds perfect!!! :)
SYou made the right call. Churro waffles are always the answer!!

You bad Wisconsinite, you! LOL Inquiring readers (ME!) want to know if Jake finished his 6!!

It is like a Corona ad!! 🍻

I hope you DO use this on your Christmas card!! It totally captures the perfect Castaway Cay vibes!
We loved having the Churro Mickey Waffles again on Sunday at Crystal Palace!! And yes!! He finished them no problem :rotfl: Last year when he went to a minor league baseball game, he completed a challenge in which he had to drink one beer and eat one hot dog every single inning. He also completed that no problem  You guys are kindred spirits in that you both love your beer!!
Getting up early was definitely the way to go for Castaway- the crowds really picked up around 11:00 or so. But, it never felt crazy crowded! It was such a great day :)
What a great day on Castaway Cay!!

Enjoy your time at WDW!!
