I'm hearing conflicting things about fries at counter service places. I keep reading gluten-free reviews where people mention getting fries at, say, Columbia Harbor House, but then fries aren't on the official lists I'm seeing of gluten free foods there. Does it just sort of depend on what the manager says--whether they'll bake up some fries for you or not?

My own personal experience has been that if they place serves the allergy tenders then they're willing to bake some fries along with the tenders since they have to bake up the tenders anyway. The fries themselves are gluten free; it's just cross contamination in the fryer that makes the regular ones not safe so if they're baked then they're fine. At least that's been true for us at MK and a few years ago at DHS (at AK and DHS we typically eat TS rather than CS and at Epcot we get other sides besides fries). At TS locations, most chefs heat up a fresh pot of oil and fry up the fries and tenders on the stove.
