Friends might join us?

DH and I are renting DVC points for a five night stay in a savanna view studio at AKL this September, and we're super excited! We have a couple of friends who we haven't seen since they moved to Miami last March, and when we told them we had booked we talked it over and they might drive up and join us for a couple of days of our trip, then drive us back to Miami with them for a couple of days before we fly home!

It all sounds like a lot of fun, but I'm wondering what I need to do to be above board with our reservations? Nothing is set in stone yet, but if they come up and spend at least one night with us, I assume I have to add them on to our room reservation somehow. Would I have to add them for all five nights even if they only spend one night? Would I have to notify AKL or the DVC broker? Will parking at the resort be a problem for them? And what's the best way to handle making FP+ reservations for us all? DH and I already have four day tickets added to MDE, but I assume our friends will purchase FL resident tickets for themselves at some point.

Just wondering if anyone has experience with a similar situation. Again, nothing is for sure yet, just speaking hypothetically for now!

After you check in add them to your reservation so they have access to the amenities at the resort and EMH and charging at the parks. There is no charge for extra adults in a DVC resort and the AKL studio legally sleeps 4.

If you add them to your MDE you can make FP+ for them along with yours even if they aren't on the reservation yet. (As long as someone listed in the room is included in each FP+)

The owner you are renting from really needs to know you are increasing the number of guests in the studio. Contact David and let him know and he will contact the owner.

We rented through DVC Rental Store, not David’s. I definitely agree that the owner need to know, I just don’t know when to say something since we aren’t sure if or when our friends will be staying? Is it better to say maybe now or speak in definites closer to the date?

I'd go with they might be joining you so the owner has time to contact Member Services and update the reservation. If you wait until right before the reservation starts and your broker might have a hard time contacting the owner, it could be hard to notify MS. If they don't join you, it won't be a problem.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll shoot them an email!

Agree - as long as your under room occupancy I would add them now as its easier to delete a guest or two than add them.

The only issue with adding them is if you are buying the dining plan. If you are then you would have to purchase for them as well. If you aren’t using the dining plan go ahead and add them now. This will also let you personalize magic bands for them in advance. I did the same thing for a friend of mine who lives down there who joined me for 1 night. It worked out well.
