My friend is going to WDW for the first time with his family in October. He says he was told that magical express is free one way only and that he would have to pay for the other leg of the trip. Does this sound right? I always rent a car so I know nothing about ME these days. I thought it was still completely free.

ME is still free... both ways!

Sounds like your friend is taking a cruise. Transportation between MCO and WDW is free (DME). Transportation to and from the port is still charged. Technically the cruise transportation isn't part of DME but Mears is interchanging the buses between the different programs.

Is there any way you can get that information from him. How did he book? Was it online or through a travel agent? Time he will be here? How it was suggested he pay to return to the airport? I certainly would like to follow up on your comment about paying to get back to MCO.

Is it at all possible that your friend was confusing paying for transportation with tipping for baggage handling? When you arrive and your luggage is automaticaly delivered by DME, Disney covers the tip. But if you get assistance with your luggage when you check out (that is, if Bell Services comes to your room to help you with it) then you'd be responsible for a tip.

My first thought was maybe it's a cruise thing also. You have to pay for the DCL to take you back to the airport.
But, DME is still free of charge...both ways.

He is not taking a cruise. Maybe it is the tip idea. He booked it on his own and I almost do not want to ask any questions about it. It will open a whole can of worms. I noticed I have 2 kinds of friends/family that book vacations at WDW. The kind that gets your input before booking in an effort to make everything as magical as possible. Then the kind that books it without you knowing and then tells you that they are going, gives you the details of the trip they are to take(which never quite sound right), and will almost certainly be overwhelmed when they get there they don't have a frickin clue what to do. Yeah, that's him. Oh, BTW. He is own DDP in October with no ADRs. Do you think I want to go down that road with him?

LOL :rotfl:

Some people you just can't help. With no ADR's he will probably learn the hard way!:confused3

He's not booked at the Swan or Dolphin, right? They aren't Disney resorts.

I booked a co worker of my husband back in may for Disneys free dining promo. I've told him a bunch of times he'll need to make adr's. Given him all the pamphlets, and asked him what kind of dining he likes and made some recommendations....

A couple of times I've asked him and he keep saying "I haven't had a chance to look at it" .... I gave up :confused3

He has never been, has no idea even how many parks there are, etc. :teeth: You can't help someone that doesn't want it .... :wizard:

My favorite conversations are the post trip ones.

"We didn't do many of the rides because the lines were so long, do you know how much they charge for the fastpass?"

"We used our fast pass for the day on ride XX"

"My favorite park was Disney World" :confused3

"We couldn't find Bugs Bunny anywhere" :rotfl2:

Or my person favorite (partly because it comes from a know it all) "We never eat at Disney, we always go off-site for dinner. The food at Disney is terrible." Same person also stays off site and has no idea that they offer FL resident discounts, she is from Florida. Whatever.

We have tried to help many friends have a magical trip. Two groups did not heed out advice and they came back vowing to never go again.... the lines were long, the food was expensive, we couldn't get a seat.. .yada yada yada...

Then the one family that we took with us and showed them the ropes... they had so much fun they are going back again in October and invited us along. This family told us last time it was a ONE TIME trip for them.... now they are hooked. If you do Disney right, you will have the most magical time...

I am not saying any of us know it all.. but many of us on the DIS have a clue....
