Friends in Cancun--I'm sooooo Worried!

We have best friends in Cancun and Wilma is bearing down on them. At first they were told that their resort is a designated shelter, with back-up generators and food supplies, so they decided to stay put. That was yesterday. As the storm track changed and became more uncertain, they tried to leave, but the airport is closed at least through Saturday. Now they are being evacuated from their resort, which is right on the beach, and moving further inland. My communication with them is very limited.....I'm getting an email every 4 hours or so. I'm praying a lot and hoping I see them on Sunday as planned!

My sister is there too and apparently no one down there (tourists at her hotel at least) knew anything about having to evacuate. They figured it was going to miss them, but last night they were told that they are being moved to a convention center near their resort, which is more fortified than their hotel, which is right on the beach. They aren't sure when they are going to get home ... were supposed to be home Saturday, but it all depends on the damage and how flights are impacted. I'm sure they will all be fine, but wish them luck.

The last thing they want in Cancun is for something to happen to tourists. I am sure that everything will be done to protect your friends.

Miss Jasmine is right, at least that's what my mom and I have been saying. Tourism is too important to Cancun for them to not take care of the tourists. They are probably more prepared than NO was.

They may be moving to the same place. We'll keep our fingers crossed for all of them. And I'm sure you guys are right, and it makes me feel better, to think that the government officials would not want to take a chance with the tourists that are there. Let's hope they are better prepared that the folks stateside!
