Hi DVC board folks,

DH and I looked into DVC while we were in DL/DCA last week. We were quoted a special price of $90 for SSR. When we got back I decided to check out Disboards, and saw something about an $83 ff promotion. Is it too late to take advantage of this since we already had a tour with a DVC guide? If it is not too late, how would be go about it?

On a different note, someone stated that it doesn't make sense to use DVC points for a cruise. Can anyone explain this reasoning to me?

Thanks!

No it's not too late for the Friend & Family Discount. I sent you a PM in case you needed a referal.

It's not too late. I PM'd you with my contact info if you would like to use me, but you just tell your guide that you are using a referral, and you will get the discount.

As far as the cruise goes, the points are a bit high anymore, so I have rented out the amount of points I needed to make the reservation with cash and book my cruise that way.

Since I booked during my last cruise, I can still keep the 10% rebooking discount and a decent shipboard credit as well !! If I were to have converted to a points reservation, I would have lost the cash discount and credit.

Cheers !

You still have time even if paperwork had already started. We just did it a few weeks ago. I sent you a message as well for a referral. We met with Nel in California and she was great.

We just booked a Disney cruise for 2007. The reason people say it is not the best value to take a cruise on points is because you can usually rent out your points for $10 - $12 per point. This compares to getting a value of around $7.5 per point for the cruise. The $7.5 per point is still better than cash since our SSR points with dues is only costing us around $5.68 per point.

I see that there is someone else from Oregon!! Yay! I always love to see my fellow Oregonians on here!

Like Plutofan says, you can rent your points out for more than the value you get for them when booking a cruise. Likewise, you also make money on your owed taxes by having less than you will owe uncle sam taken out by your employer, save the extra yourself and invest it in something that will yield interest by the time you file taxes at the last possible minute to maximize your profit... but are you willing to do the work? :confused3

It is less hassle to book points. We have done both - points and cash. It also depends on what you have available. If you don't want to go through renting your points (risks are involved - we have never rented out our points, we use them on something) and you don't have a thousand or two extra dollars lying around for vacation use, then booking points makes sense. To buy into DVC for exclusive use on DCL would most likely *not* make sense.

That said, it is up to you. Do you invest your tax money before giving it to uncle sam? :upsidedow Just my thoughts and experiences...
