Friendly Checkers?

Has anyone tried to organize a game of friendly checkers?

(I know, I know, this is not everyone's cup of tea)

But I'm thinking, for those of us who enjoyed so many friendly pirates together, couldn't we line up across from one another in the room and avoid a lot of the nastiness going on?

It might be fun to chat with other DISers, watch their games while we wait our turn, and swap out wins/losses as well as partners to help us reach those prize levels.

Anyway, if anyone is interested in giving it a go, I'm going to be on this evening and would love to see how it works.

(If this is a repeat of another thread, apologies...)

this is a great idea :) I have to admit to having fun not just playing checkers but sitting while friends play also.

Does friendly checkers pay off? Don't you lose points when you lose a game?

I think when he says friendly checkers he doesn't mean nobody winning. Just a nice environment to play in.

Actually I (she, in this case) mean both.

A fun, friendly environment and swapping out.

For example: If I play aengus and he wins (likely), then if we have a chance to play a second time, he lets me take the win. Because once you've beaten someone, you don't get to advance another level winning a second time anyway.

but he still loses a point for letting you take the win. You lose a point any time you lose to someone the first time, whether you have beat them before or not.

I havent played enough to be sure, but I believe they are right. I still like the idea of having a friendly tourney :)

Oops sorry :goodvibes

I ran into a slight problem. I lined up across from a friend to play him and then the person from the previous game never got off the chair. How did he manage to stay on and play when his turn was obviously over. was it a glitch?

I thought this only happened if you play somebody that you have beaten before. I know I have lost some games against people I haven't played and didn't lose a point. But when I played one of my friends that I beat the first time but the second time he beat me he took the point I had before.

This isn't a glitch I believe the person will stay in the chair if the person they are playing quits. This happened to me the other day where there was only one checker left and instead of letting me jump his last checker he just quit the game. So I stayed in the chair. I have seen this happen a few other times as well.

If you play the same friends over and over you will just pass the same point back and forth all day long, you will not advance.

Actually, the first point is the only one that counts, after that, no points are exchaged, apparently. We tried this.

I could be up for some friendly checkers...considering I'm one of those that never really played checkers before (VMK or IRL)...it could be fun to learn in a friendly environment. LOL. I kinda got the jumping thing figured out, and know the basics, but have no clue what the magic does for you!

Just challenge the friend you wish to play. It will start a new game when they accept, or queue you both in a room line. Winner always holds their seat from what I have seen in a regular game, I have not played a lot.

If there is a queue, you will get a message that there is a queue and your challenge will be disregarded by the system.

the only way you hold your seat is if the other person quits, regardless of win or loss.

Hmm, didn't know about the taking away of points.

Guess that defeats the idea of getting everyone points on their pin.

So that brings us back to just being friendly, hanging out, chatting, and cheering each other on.

I'm still game! :upsidedow

Hopefully I can find some Dis peeps this evening and we'll see how it goes.

We did something like this a few nights ago, just a handful of friends, and we all had a good time. We only had one special visitor :rotfl:

Hmm... not sure about this. We seem to notice the point going back and forth. Also, the rules say it should.
