Does anyone know about these? My mom was visiting in Georgia a couple months ago and heard about them. We live in New England and have never heard of them! Are they a southern thing? Available near Disney?
Thank you
Maggie

They is really good. You can apple, and peach fried pies. All it is fruit and dough and fry hard.

Definitely a southern thing. You'll find a lot of things that are called fried pies, but the real thing is a round of pie dough folded over a pile of nicely flavored cooked apples and fried in lard in a cast iron skillet. Makes me hungry just thinking about it!

Ask your Mother if she happened onto an apple stack cake. Another marvelous southern tradition.

I would be very surprised if you found any near Disney. In spite of what it looks like on the map, most of Florida is definitely NOT "southern".

My favorite fried pies are from my hometown of New Orleans. Hubig's Pies. If you really want to try them, they do ship! My favorite are pineapple and the sweet potato fried pies. (not together)

Do they not at least sell the pies in the little boxes at every Walmart in the world??
I assumed those were sold everywhere. Maybe not?
Of course those aren't like the homeade kind that my (cook wannabe) Dad makes!!:)

Yummmmy. I grew up eating fried apple pies, and that's exactly how my mom has always made them, except she used Crisco instead of lard.

I had to read to see what this was. I've never heard of them. Though they sound a lot like something I'd really, really like. :goodvibes

Definately a southern thing. For those from the north, they are somewhat similar to Hostess Fruit Pies, except they are homemade and MUCH better.

It's pie pastry with dried fruit fried in a crescent shape. I have recipes if anyone is interested.:goodvibes

Dried fruit? There must be different versions of it. My mom always used home-canned apples instead.

My mom made these often when I was a kid. I actually got tired of them, lol.

Some people also use apple butter for the filling.

I think the traditional way is probably the dried apples. The spices they are cooked with make them tasty.

I can remember my mother using the back window of an old car and clean sheets to dry apples when I was a kid.

Remember that most of Florida is actually populated with escaped Yankees. It's not the best place for "southern" cooking!:rotfl2:

Mcdonalds used to sell deep fried apple pies --- they were the best -boy do i miss them
