Is this sandwich good or should I play it safe and get the chiliburger which has the onion ring?
thx

They're such different sandwiches, so it just depends what you're in the mood for. I like them both, but would give the nod to the chiliburger. It think the onion rings at HB are really tasty, and I found the fried green tomato sandwich to be just a little too "bready". JMHO.

I've never had the Fried Green Tomato Sandwich, but i have had the chiliburger
and it was really good.

I crave the Fried Green Tomato sandwich and it's almost always my first meal there. Finish it off with the lemon bee cupcake. :thumbsup2

I just recently tried the fried green tomato sandwhich and was a bit disappointed. If you are looking for the southern version, you will be too. It wasn't bad, but I found it bready as well and not what I was used to.

I grew up on fried green tomatoes, my Mom fried them either in flour or cornmeal. Love them either way. Can you get the sandwich with the dressing on the side? I can't stand anything with a mayo base.

I had the fried green tomato sandwich and really enjoyed it. We prefer onion rings, and they substituted them for us. LOVED the onion rings! I do want to try the chili burger next time though.

I've never tried the sandwich either, but I havent heard too many good things about it, it all depends on what you like, it might be right up your alley.

I am super curious about the Fried Green Tomato Sandwich as well on my next trip. From the pictures I have seen of it, it looks interesting.

The chiliburger has never looked too appealing to me, so I might be a bit biased in my answer :)

I will be going here as well and I will definitely be trying the Fried Green Tomato sandwich. But I was just wondering (and I don't want to make a separate thread about this)... is there another burger or sandwich that you recommend? Thanks :)

I enjoyed the Cafe Steak Melt at Carnation Cafe. Not sure if it will still be on the menu when this restaurant re-opens after the re-furb, but I hope so. I also like the grilled cheese with tomato soup at Jolly Holiday, but it can be "hit or miss" depending on how long it's been sitting in the case. There are a few other sandwiches that look interesting at Jolly Holiday, but I just haven't tried them yet.

Oh I love the steak melt! I've always wanted to go to Jolly Holiday... I think I'll definitely try them out as well on my next trip.

My daughter and I LOVE the FGTS! We always get the cupcake as well. Yummy!

Sounds delish!! If you have it please take and pic and make sure to let us know how you liked it :) Have fun!!

I also really enjoy the Fried Green Tomato sandwich...I was disappointed though in the berry pie...hope they improive on their pies by the time the pie place in DCA opens...maybe if they'd heat it it would be better....

Loved the tomato sandwich. It was also bigger and more filling than a regular burger which surprised me. I think my only disappointment was that the side was coleslaw and the sandwich came with coleslaw on it so it was too much. If I remember that correctly gun for a different side like the sweet potato fries or if they'll do onion rings that would be the perfect combo for me!

Joining the boards last fall I studied the food reviews of the Hungry Bear newest offerings. While visiting last October I took the plunge and ordered the fried green tomato sandwich, one word describes it for me scrumptious! Very well put together IMO needed a dash if salt and it was good to go. Looking forward to having one again this October.*
