Fridge?

Not getting response in my PTR, so I'm going to ask here.

I'm debating on renting a fridge, is it worth the $10 a day? I would like to bring some drinkable yogurt and a little milk for those mornings/nights that DD wants something extra. Of course some cereal bars, apples & PB (her favorite!), and some other snacks that shelikes... maybe some peanuts and pretzels.

Or should I just get a cooler and refill with some ice every morning? I'm sure there are ice machines all over ASMovies... can I fill a little cooler? Will there be any left over food from meals that we'll need to bring back?

Our first trip back in 05, we stayed at ASM, without a fridge. Our friends told us to rent one, but we did not. Our next trip, we stayed at French Quarter, had one in that room. We used it quite a bit; DW says she will only go again if we have a fridge!

For us we will be renting a fridge. Since we are flying in, we will not have a cooler to bring.

If you can bring a cooler, ice is free and machines are located on every floor of the resorts. If you are staying a lengthy trip, you might can buy a fridge for what it costs to rent one if not at a resort that provides them.

:rotfl: I can just see myself now trying to bring my own fridge into the resort :rotfl2:

Thanks for the info everyone!

Just be warned the the fridges at the values are primarily for people who NEED them (medical reasons). You MAY be able to rent one but you may not if they are being used by people who need them. But yes, if you can, they are fabulous to have. And if you are going at a warm time of year, you'll need a LOT of water so if you have a fridge, you can keep them cold.

Depending where you are staying there are swaps with fridges with other people from the disboards. Check out the budget board, at the top there should be a sticky with the different swaps that are still open. These are free.

We were in one last year and it worked out great.

We liked having a fridge for the items you mentioned also if we had a dessert leftover from a meal, and beer for DH.:)

have a great trip.

We did the ice chest thing one year. It was time consuming because of course we were not close to the ice machine. We would just take our small cooler and ice bucket and fill her up. Of course you have to pour the water out every day and replace it. The next time we stayed we rented a frig. at the time it was only $10 a day and worth it. We did bring some food back to the room but it didn't normally get eaten. We mainly used it for our milk and juice we used for breakfast every morning and water. You will just have to way the cost. What's really $50-70 more dollars when your talking disney??:confused3

Thanks so much SusieQzee!!

Actually $50-$70 is a lot when you're a single parent and planning a budget for everything!

Thanks for posting this question. We have been having the same debate. I checked some fridge swaps and a lot seem to be full at the time we are going. We are flying so bringing a cooler is out for us but I had read about the grocery delivery service and it looks like you can buy a styrofoam cooler from them with your purchase. Just another idea....

I use my fridge a lot - I eat breakfast in the room every morning, so need milk, etc. To me, it would be a hassle to deal with a cooler (dealing with melted ice, etc., especially if your room isn't close to an ice machine). But if money is an issue, I bet a cooler would work just fine!

Single mom here, too. I'm always looking for ways to stretch a buck (or 70). lol Happy planning!

Got on board with a swap! Now I just need to do my push ups to carry a fridge from the car to the room :rotfl:

Maybe you've thought of this but, if all you really need to keep cold is milk/juice for breakfast then you could theoretically just buy a smaller container (pint/quart) every morning for 3 or 4 bucks at the resort. That's less than 10 bucks a day (I'm in that camp that believes that every dollar does count.........................ESPECIALLY when at Disney :lmao:).

That's what I'm planning to do at the end of this month when we go anyway. I will pack protein bars, fruit, PB, bread and dry cereal in our suitcase and make a run for the store every morning for milk. I'm pretty sure we can use up a pint between the three of us.

Just food for thought :)
