We're going with friends and she has medication that has to be refrigerated....does the resort still charge for the refrigerator rental? And if it doesn't do you have to have a note from your doctor??

Thanks!

I dont know for a fact but... if you tell them its for meds and if it came down to it giving them a hard time about it, im sure they will let you use it.

Let them know it's for medication when you make your reservation. When you get your confirmation sheet check to make sure it says 'refrigerator GTD for medical reasons"

They might give you a refridgerator that is the size of a shoebox. Yhe meds fit, but nothing else did. This time we're just going to take the $10 charge.

Not sure if you can change your reservations or not, but all the DVC villas have fridges already in them.

They still charge you for the fridge. They changed the policy a few years ago because everyone had a medical reason. It is a shame that some had to ruin it for the ones that need it.

We're staying at the All-Star Movies....as much as I would like to stay at a DVC villa or even a moderate or deluxe resort I can't bring myself to pay that much for a room that we sleep and shower in :D A shoebox would work for me - she just needs to keep her meds cold. If she wants it for anything else then they can pay the fee. As nice as it is to have a fridge it just isn't worth the extra money to me. Are the fridges they give you for medication truly that much smaller than the one's you get if you rent? I have never seen one smaller than the small (square) dorm size.

It is a shame - although I'm sure that it is requested for medication or whatever the folks who get them do use them for other things so I guess in a way I understand the policy. But it does stink when you don't have any choice but to get one that you end up with even more expense.

We need a fridge for my DD's meds and requested it when I made our ressies for October. The CM noted it and when we got our confirmation it states that we need one for medical purposes and that the fee is waived.

BTW - we are staying at ASMusic.

My confirmation says No Charge

Wonderful, perhaps they changed back. Good news to those who need them for meds.

It's inconsistent whether they charge for a refrigerator for medical reasons of not.
In the way past, it used to be free if you had medications, but then people reported being charged. The reason they were given was that too many people without medical needs were just saying they had needs to avoid paying for a frig. People reported being told that their choice was either to pay the fee or keep their medication at the resort front desk (even if it meant multiple trips each day to the desk to get doses). For a wheile, people were reporting that even if they arranged fro the refrigerator theu the Special Needs Department, they could not get the fee waived.
Recently people have been posting that the fee was waived, so it appears to be swinging back to that. Call ahead like Piglet and docgrumpy said and look for the confirmation sheet to say "For medical reasons" or "No charge". Also make sure your medication is in the original pharmacy bottle with a sticker that indictes it needs refrigeration.

Hi When we went down in January at WL it stated on the ressie NO CHARGE medical request.I did go into a little detail with the CM who was very nice and understanding.

We were at wdw in November and requested a refrigerator for medicine and we were not charged. We didn't have to show any proof or go into explanations.

Well...I'm still waiting for my most recent confirmation to be faxed....but when I asked if there would be a fee for it she told me to check with the front desk upon check-in. Her medication will be in it's original package and states on there that it has to be refrigerated. Regardless she needs it so I'll just keep my fingers crossed she don't have to pay.

We stayed at WL in Aug and I had requested a refrigerator for medical reasons. It was no problem and no charge. :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Yep, there is NO charge for the fridge for medicine. My ds has asthma and his orapred has to be refrigerated- we keep it in a travelling pack with cooling blocks while on the plane and they will put it in a refrigerator there if your room is not ready. We have had to bring this twice- so there has never been a charge.

No charge for fridge!

Last year, when we stayed at the AKL, I mentioned my DD had medicine that needed to be refridgerated. They said no problem and a complimentary one was delivered after we arrived. I did have to call and remind the front desk after we arrived but it was delivered very qucikly.

We got a free frige 2 years ago. It's a small one.
