Fridge and microwave needed for medical reasons at ASMu

Hi,
Help me figure out if I should feel good about asking for a free fridge at ASMu. We are taking our 5 year old autistic daughter and the rest of our kids and grandparents to Disney for Christmas this year! We are SO excited. my daughter can only say a few words and Mickey & Minnie are two of them.

Her is my question....my daughter is on lots of medicines/supplements that need to be refrigerated. She also drinks rice milk (which we put all her meds in) which also needs to be kept cool. We need a dorm size fridge because I don't think the "medical" one will fit the rice milk.

Is it o.k. (honest) to ask for a free fridge for medical reasons? We are already over our budget on this trip and paying an extra $80 (10X8 nights) is pushing it. If I can't get a free one I will bring a cooler and just add ice every day.

What do you think.

Also, I heat her milk in a microwave (it has to be a certain temp or she will not drink it) Do you think I could bring a microwave in the room - or do you think they have them on request?

They may or may not charge for the fridge.

Micorwaves aren't allowed in the rooms, but there is one you are welcome to use in thr food court.

It sounds like you truely need it for medical reasons so just ask for it. Just let them know why you need the bigger one and you will get it. And you won't be charged for it.

Once you have made your reservation, call Special (Medical) Reservations at 407-939-7807. Explain the special needs and give them your reservation number. They will be able to set up what is necessary, and anything they set up is "guaranteed" and not just "requested" (which is what regular reservations do).

We have some of the same issues with needing a fridge for our daughters medical needs. We also need a sofa so that she can have an alternative seat to her wheelchair. She does not have enough trunk control to sit in chairs, she needs a sofa. We explained our situation to CS and they recommended Fort Wilderness Cabins. It was just perfect. We are headed down again next month and plan to stay there again. We stayed in an accessible cabin. It had a full kitchen (full size fridge, stove, microwave & dw), full bath and bedroom with a full bed and a set of bunk beds. The living room also has a murphy bed, so it worked just perfect for us. They sleep 6 comfortably.

Another option, would be to rent a home or condo off property. There are many options off property. I'm not sure if you need it or not, but you can even find accessible homes to rent.

Did they charge you regular rate for the cabin or a rate that was similar to a room rate? Just wondering if that was through medical reservations and how that works?

No special rate. But, the cabins are perfect for my family. We will probably always stay in them from now on. The cabin rates are comparable to the deluxe resorts.

I think they are extremely friendly to accessible guests and they help out any way that they can, but I don't think we get any type of discounts or special rates. They of course do lots of work with special groups like Make-A-Wish and others like them. So, I don't really complain about that. I love to see the Make-A-Wish kids around the park.

Have U looked into renting points from DVC member. DVC has fridge and microwave. It may cost about the same as 2 value rooms when renting. They rent for more points on the weekends but it may be just what U need and within your price range for 2 studios. OKW has larger rooms of the DVC and they come with fridge microwave, toaster, bowls, plates, and utinsels. 2 kids could stay with GM & GP and you could use your room as a refuge for your DD. To avoid Melt down.

I have stayed DVC for a few of my trips. I have stayed at AS and if there is a medical reason they will send U a dorm fridge at no charge. I offered to pay for one at ASsp, new to this Diabetes, they said not a problem its free. I am still using the food every few hours to keep in line YAY no shots yet
