Friday has been declared a national day of mourning and federal government officers will be closed. In respect of Ronald Reagan - Bush will speak at the funeral, which will take place Friday at 11:30 a.m. EST at the National Cathedral in Washington.

Today the Reagan family was to travel in a motorcade with the body to the presidential library in Simi Valley, northwest of Los Angeles. After a private ceremony, the body was to lie in repose for public visitation through Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the body will be flown to Washington, D.C. The family accepted an offer from President Bush to use one of his jets, normally used as Air Force One, for the trip. The body will then be driven to the U.S. Capitol for a state funeral. Reagan's body will then lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda through Thursday.

Friday morning, a motorcade will take the casket to the National Cathedral for a national funeral service. It will then be flown back to California for a motorcade to the library for a private interment service.

Reagan will be buried in a crypt beneath a memorial site at the library, a library spokeswoman said. A curved wall adorned with shrubbery and ivy lines the memorial and is inscribed with a three-line quote from Reagan.

"I know in my heart that man is good. That what is right will always eventually triumph. And there's purpose and worth to each and every life," the inscription reads.

He always reminded me so much of my grandpa. I'm grateful he's at peace now.

JJ, that's cool that the UK is also having a national day of mourning.
 
I'm also relieved for his family that he's gone. From talking to some of my friends who have gone through it, even a year or two of caring for a relative with Altzheimer's is draining, much less a decade. I've heard pneumonia called the "friend" of the Altzheimer's patient...perhaps his medical care was a bit "too" good, in that he did not get physically ill earlier.
 
My sister who works for the IRS, was wondering about this. Thanks for the info.
 
I'm relieved both for him and for Nancy Reagan. I can't imagine how difficult life has been for both of them, in particular the last few years. Still, it is very sad. President Reagan is the first "hero" I remember having as a child.
 
I work for the Federal Government and we just found out about this before lunch. It is so sad, but he was suffering alot. God bless everyone and his family.
 
All post offices will be closed on Friday and will resume mail delivery on Sat. June 12th.
