I even have multiple cards to prove it, LOL!

Okay, so I posted a thread before we left, asking if the DVC open house was a hard sell. Based on feedback, we decided to go (and hey, a $50 Disney g.c. and free ice cream didn't hurt). We have been to WDW a handful of times in 15 years, and I went twice myself in the 90s. We'd been looking at DVC for years (and gee, wish we'd bought ten years ago when you could buy a decent number of points for $5-6,000!).

Anyway, Mark was our rep, and he was pretty laid back. He said, "Ask me some questions," so I did :) And he sat up straight and said, "Somebody did their homework. Want to do numbers?" We were like, heck yeah, let's run numbers. We asked about the resale market, we talked home resorts and use years, and he let us have lots of breaks, where we talked about stuff just between the two of us. We saw the demo rooms (Aulani, whoa... nice). And we decided that DVC was for us, specifically, the Poly.

Why? Well, we'd heard about Trader Sam's before we left and were keen to go. And that was that. No, just kidding. But we got to TS on our second night, got a pager, and walked around the Poly.

We LOVED it. The pool, the Dole Whips, the DVC area, the counter service (ummm.... blows away the QS at the moderates; LOBSTAH ROLLS? for real???), the Tambu Lounge (or as I like to call it, my home away from home), Trader Sam's which was AWESOME, and did I mention Dole Whips? The whole vibe, it just fit.

Is it worth $165 pp? I guess, for some people, it is, if you want home resort advantage, which we do. Otherwise, we'd have done resale.

We have looked at other DVCs: VGF, SSR, Beach and Yacht Club and Boardwalk, and OKW. We'll be happy to try them all :) But we can't wait for our first stay at the Poly. If we win the lottery, I guess we'll upgrade to enough points for the bungalows, but in the meantime... We're pleased with our decision.

Oh, the multiple cards? We thought about VGF, and were wait listed, and it just came through a few days ago, but we said we called Mark and told him no, we decided that we wanted to stick with the Poly. So we had these new DVC member cards come for the VGF, which are now null and void, and then apparently he had to put through the paperwork for the Poly, and those cards just came today, after we already had cards for the Poly, so... That's a lot of membership cards :)

So anyway, long post is long, but here we are! New DVC members! Got the magnet on my car to prove it :)

If you did your homework, know 100% that PVB is where you want to stay, you love the room, the location and views from the rooms, only need a studio, and understand the pluses and minuses of owning a DVC interest then welcome home!

:earsboy: Bill

The Polynesian is a gorgeous resort and it is already very hard to book there without the 11-month owner advantage. You will have many happy years ahead!

If you are there for 10 days then why not. It is not a hard sell at all, and I think you still get free ice cream, lol.

But I would not be surprised to see you make a post later on with us congratulating you on buying dvc :D

Here is my reply from your post about taking the tour . It sounds like you thought about the options and decided you really wanted Poly. Sure it was more cost than resale, but it is what you and your family want and that's really all that matters. Congrats and welcome home!

YEAH!!!!! Congrats!!!! :welcome:

Hooray and congrats! Did Mark mention to you that new members buy other members the first round at Trader Sam's? ;)
No, he didn't, but I'll let you know next time we're there :) You just have to sing the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Rum song...

No problem! One of those $52 20K drinks and I'll have the whole place joining in on "Let's All Sing Like The Birdies Sing" :earsboy:

Congratulations!!! My only regret with DVC is not buying sooner.
I sort of feel the same way when I think about what we've spent on moderates in the past. Not that we didn't love CBR, but we could've been staying deluxe this whole time.

I know what you mean. We stayed at contemporary in 2006 and wilderness 2007. It only took those two trips in deluxe for me to convince hubby thst we were much better off becoming members for many reasons.

Congrats and welcome home!! This was a great to post to read on this gloomy rainy morning (in Michigan at least...). I still remember when we first purchased back in 2000, it was wonderful and STILL IS. We purchased direct at VGF when they went up because we knew how important it would be to have the 11 month booking window and have never regretted the decision. Best wishes and enjoy!!! PS....while I can appreciate your choice of dessert, nothing beats that croughnut with ice cream at the World Showcase. #dessertheaven
