We are flying out of Newark on Jet Blue next week..(doing the single digit happy dance  )
I was just wondering if I could carry a new fresh pair of disposable contact lenses that have not been opened in a blister pack(packed in saline sealed with aluminum foil - like acuvue 2).
I always carry a spare pair in my purse, and need to know if I should put them in my luggage instead.

Thanks

Put them in your luggage. They are packed in Saline, saline is a no no. :)

Based on posts here, and on other boards, TSA doesn't seem to have a problem with the small amount of saline that's in a contact lens case or that's used to package new lenses.

Perhaps, but, considering the cost of lenses, I would be loathe to take the chance of having to toss them.
When it doubt, check it. ;)

I always travel with a new set of lenses also. I have an old cardboard jewellery box with the cotton still inside. This is what I put my new lenses in. It keeps them safe and solid.

When do you fly out? I"m flying Jet Blue out of Newark on Wednesday!!!!

I have contacts, too and I am conflicted about what to do with them. I don't want to check them in case my luggage is lost and I don't want to have them confiscated. I'm searching the sites now for info. I also want to know if "softlips" or "chapstick" counts as a liquid/gel which isn't allowed or a "solid lipstick or blush" which is allowed . . . hmm.

:)

Would this fall under prescription meds? Would it be possible to have it labeled like a prescription med would be? Honestly though, I just plan on packing mine in my checked luggage. I can wear glasses for a day. Not my preference but the lesser of the two evils imo.

I'm packing my extra pair in my checked bag. Don't want to take a chance of some overzealous TSA agent making me toss them.

Here's some good news for all you contact wearers! :cool1: I cut&pasted this directly from the TSA webside:

Eye drops - You are allowed to carry up to 4 oz., of eye drops with you. Volumes greater than 4 oz., are only permitted in your checked baggage.

Saline solution - You are allowed to carry up to 4 oz., of eye drops with you. Volumes greater than 4 oz., are only permitted in your checked baggage.
