Anyone ever cook one of these? They are on sale this week and I thought I'd like to try one, but none of my cook books seem to a recipie. I don't whether it should be baked or braised or what to serve with it. Can anyone help?

My MIL makes this. Her recipe is as easy as it gets!
She takes the brisket, places it in one of those oven bags and pours on her best BBQ sauce. She cooks it for like 4 hours. It practically falls apart, delish. She serves green beans and mashed potatoes with it.

Enjoy!

The secret is slow cooking at low heat. Down here in Texas cooking them is an art. I usually cook mine on my smoker outside with mesquite wood as the fuel of choice. I apply a dry rub of cayanne pepper, garlic salt, black pepper, and about four or five other secret ingrediants and then I smoke it for about three hours. At that point I wrap it in foil and cook it for another 6 to 7 hours. I love brisket! In Texas the bar-b-que sauce is served on the side and only used after the meat is sliced.

My mother in law uses the bag method but instead of bar-b-que sauce she uses a small bottle of liquid smoke along with one of the rubs. The only reason I don't like the oven methods is that the meat falls apart and comes out stringy and to hard to slice.

I bake them in the oven, shred it up and put b-b-q sauce on it and then serve it on buns. It is really good for a large gathering.

brerrabbit, that's funny because my MIL lives in Texas!! She is not a very good cook but her brisket is really tasty!! LOL

I put it in the slow-cooker (crock pot) with a bottle of bar be que sauce and a bottle of beer. I let it cook all day, and when you take it out, you kind of pull it apart into pieces, and I pile it onto big sandwich rolls. My husband loves it!

i like to smoke mine with hickory,( regional, sorry to the texans) for about 4 hours then wrap in foil and slow cook ( 225 degrees0 in the oven for another 5 to 6 hours,,, dependng on my mood either rub with a brown sugar/spice mix, or a pepper /spice mix,,, then serve sliced ith sauce on the side:)

This is the same thing I do. It also works well with a pork loin roast too. Yummy!!!!!!

I like this recipe. You can just slice it when it's done. I use KC Masterpiece BBQ sauce, just because that's what my kids like.

EASY BRISKET

Ingredients:

3 - 4 pound brisket of beef (2nd cut is fine)

1 ½ cups barbecue sauce

garlic powder

heavy duty aluminum foil

Procedure:
Pre-heat oven to 350°

Trim most of the fat from both sides of the brisket. Wash and pat dry. Place brisket on two pieces of heavy duty foil arranged crosswise. (Sometimes we use more foil.)

Sprinkle garlic powder on both sides of meat. Spread barbecue sauce or catsup mixture evenly on both sides of the meat. Wrap the meat with the foil tightly so that no air can get in. Place the package on the middle rack of a preheated 350° oven. Cook for approximately one hour per pound.

3lb. brisket - usually 3 ½ hours

4lb. brisket - usually 4 hours

5lb. brisket - usually 4 ½ hours

Remove carefully from foil. Save juice for gravy. Allow to sit until warm, then slice. Warm up sliced brisket in 300° oven for ½ hour.

My Family loves: Brisket of Beef with Rice

Put brisket in aluminum oven bag
pour two packages of Lipton onion soup mix (dry ) on meat
Pour 4 cups of water with about 2 tablespoons of gravy master on top
Seal bag and cook at 350 degrees for one and a half hours

Remove beef and slice thinly
Thicken gravy slightly with flour
Serve over white rice

I stab my brisket all over with a fork, and then rub it down with a bottle of Ranch Dressing. I wrap it in heavy duty aluminum foil, and cook it at 200 degrees all night.
The next morning I finish it up on the grill to give it the smoked taste. Usually doesn't take more than an hour. We usually use mesquite or pecan wood. I serve the BBQ sauce on the side. The meat is so tender you can cut it with a fork. Very easy!

Place the brisket in a crock pot and pour two bottles of Heinz Chili Sauce (it's usually sold right next to the Heinz catsup) and half of a can of coke over the meat. Set the crock pot on low and 8 hours later, dinner is ready.

I often marinate in barbeque sauce, sear it on the grill, then wrap it in foil and continue on the grill for 6 hours.

However, if you want it for passover, cook it in the oven covered, like a potroast with seasonings, onions, carrots if you like.

Beaware that it shrinks a lot.
