Frequent Flyers -some questions

There is a flight I want to book to Jackson Hole WY the only direct flight from Atlanta GA for the date I want to go.
I was not expecting to be able to fly direct -so this would be real bonus.
Here's the question.
It is the last flight to WY of the day at 7:00 pm. I am worried that it will get cancelled and we won't be able to get out until the next day -which would mess up our plans.
So -any thoughts?? The airlines we are looking at is delta.
Any other advice is appreciated. I almost never fly -and haven't been on a plane in years.

Try to avoid the last flight of the day to anywhere because of the chances of delays or cancellations. Delays can happen for so many reasons - weather, mechanical issues, ATC delays, etc...

If the flight is cancelled then the airline will put you on the next flight to that destination but they DO NOT have to put you on another direct flight - (they would most likely route you thru their hub in Salt Lake City).

A lot depends on the nationwide weather. If there are severe storm system which close airports it is possible that the scheduled aircraft may not arrive. However, normally this only happens when they are severe winter storms.

Also, Delta has many flights between ATL and JAC (go to www.delta.com to search. If, for some reason, your flight does not go Delta will make whatever arrangements are necessary for you to bve able to get there as close to your shceuled arrival as possible.

And, by the way, a "direct" fight is not the same as a "non-stop". A direct may stop somewhere but you do not have to change planes; a non-stop does not make any intermediate stops.

You beat me to it. This is a pet peeve of mine. Drives me NUTS. (I know... my problem)

Being that it is Delta, I would expect some sort of issue.
