Who has done this excursion and what exactly is it?

We "kinda" did it. We ended up going to Orient Beach on our own (our planed excursion was cancelled by DCL). Here's our cost: about $8 per person each way and $15 for the chair and umbrella once we got there. This in contrast to the $45/person for the "same trip". Well, we didn't have the lunch (you should be able to get a really nice one with the money saved) and we weren't forced into a stop at a "shopping area".

If you are planning on just doing a beach day, my recomendation is to do it on your own - much less expensive than a DCL beach excursion. For snorkeling, we've always stuck to the DCL excursions.

BTW: Orient Beach is Beautiful. Great waves, the water is great, the beach is very nice, the sceanry is beautiful and there may be a few topless women that are worth looking at (but generally speaking - not really).

We did it and it was a wonderful day. My favorite of the trip. The beach was amazing. The lunch that was included was very good. You don't have to get off the bus at the shopping district. If you don't want to shop you stay on and it goes back to the ship. I highy recommend it.
