We always enjoy the FQ. The grounds are great. Lots of room for kids to run and let off steam. They have a playground and kiddie pool, if that interests you.
The boat to DTD starts running at 4:30 and typically runs until about 11pm. However, if bad weather approaches then it stops running. You then have to catch a bus to DTW and Pleasure Island. There are two stops that you can catch buses. One is by Planet Hollywood and the other is by the Rain Forest Cafe. After it makes those two stops then it goes on to the FQ and Riverside.
The resort is small and very inviting. Close walk to everything. We have stayed in bldg. 5, 4 and 6. We prefer bldg. 4 and 5 but any building is great.
Riverside is a short walk. Nice stroll. Takes about 10-15 minutes depending on age of those in your party and how fast you walk. The pool there has a slide that is nicer for older kids. The pool at the FQ is great, too. The nice thing is that you can use either pool.
Can't tell you much about the food court since it has been redone recently. Posts say it is similar to that at Riverside - which would be great!
The bus transportation has always been good for us. It is right out in the front of the hotel. There are two stations. Be sure to check which buses stop at which stations. I know the far one is for Magic Kingdom and something else. Can't remember but they are clearly marked. Just be sure to check. The longest ride from FQ is to the Animal Kingdom - as I remember it. The FQ stop is also nice because you are the first ones on the bus and the first ones off the bus. You share buses with Riverside.
This is one of our favorite resorts. I'm sure you will like it.
