I am travelling with a 17 year old with ASD, who only eats a few foods, and will not venture out of that comfort zone. He does enjoy Le Cellier, Narcoosees and Grand Floridian Cafe for a steak dinner. We eat there because there is the option of fries, but I have checked the menus for our upcoming stay and see a change to parmesan fries now at 2 of those. We also wanted to try Steakhouse 71 (as staying at GF) but same there. My question (finally you say) is will regular fries be an option? He only has steak and fries (not touching) on the plate, no other accompaniment is tolerated. FYI I take the dishes as they come 😁

Speaking from restaurant worker experience, the fries become “Parmesan’d” after they are fried, so plain would be an option. If my memory serves, I think Boathouse has regular fries too.
That's great news thank you. Yes we love the Boathouse, he likes the filet mignon sliders and French fries. Can you see a theme here 🤦‍♀️

My daughter has ARFID and Steakhouse 71 gave her a serving of waffle fries for dinner with no seasonings and no parm. Not sure if waffle shaped is acceptable (my daughter has MANY food rules so I get that world completely).

That's good to hear. I will show him some photos of the waffle fries to lay the groundwork in his head 🤞

They will not put parmesan on the fries as long as you request beforehand. I was exactly like your son at his age. My favorite fries are at the fish and chips quick service in Great Britain. Beat steak fries in my life actually.

This time he will be almost 18, so I plan to leave him at his usual QS places with his food, iPhone and air con, whilst I eat where I wish to (oh the freedom 🤣). Yorkshire Fish n Chip Shop is always a good option for me (even for those of us from England).

It's been a few years since we ate at Steakhouse 71, but when we ate there and asked for plain fries for DD (who is also ASD) they said unfortunately the fries came pre-seasoned. O'hana on the other hand was able to provide food not on the menu. We got in the habit of bringing along a meal or feeding DD beforehand then letting her order a drink and/or dessert.

To confirm, I didn’t work at a Disney restaurant, so I didn’t wanna make sure that’s clarified because I 100% get where your son is coming from. Normally the Parmesan or truffle or adding the extra to fries happens after they’re already fried but it does sound like maybe a call to steakhouse 71 is in order. Every time I make a reservation, I have to play 20 questions with the kids as to “is this a restaurant with the big fries or the little fries or the steak fries or the waffle fries…. What kind of bread did they have?” I wish you the best of luck on your eating journeys

I personally find it odd regular fries are not an option as it is one of the classic steak sides. Never been to a steak house where they were not an option and ordered for the table or as someone’s side.
It however seems Disney has moved towards part-fully cooked prepackaged many things in recent years. The only suggestion I can make is call/email or look for fries anywhere including kids menu as it will 99% be an option.
Personally I like my fries plain never had a French fry I wanted more of that was flavored or seasoned with anything.
