Does anyone else have this problem with their satilite system? My picture freezes (but only on like one or two channels) or sometimes the station just remains a black screen. when I call direct TV they say its the connections, but I had them all replaced and it still happens. We've had the system for about 8 years and it has been doing this for a long time! I think I am finally tired of it!!! If you've had this problem how did you fix it? Any ideas?

Dumped the dish and went cable. :)

I had that problem once, and it was the LNB going out. Swapped it and have not had the problem since.

Okay ...cable is not available out here in the sticks so can't do that. What is LNB? maybe if I knew what that was I could fix it. thanks!!

We have that problem on one of our two tvs. I've had them out twice, they've sent me new cards, etc. I just don't watch those channels on that TV now!

And I think the LNB is the stickie outie thing on the dish (don't you love those technical terms??)

LOL yeah pretty close. The LNB is the part that points back into the dish. It usually has a white cap on it.

Here is one on Ebay

Could just be a bad signal; if you have trees right in front, or a tall building partially blocking the signal, some of the channels beign transmitted on a weak transponder from the satellite might get broken up; when that happens, the picture will freeze, the sound may still go on, then the picture will catch up. If the signal is lost long enough, usually a couple of seconds, the screen will blank. Try putting in an in line amplifier; they run about $15, and make a noticable difference.

We had that problem with Directv on the television in the living room. It was happening with mainly the local channels. We switched out the box in the living room with the box in the bedroom and the problem went stopped.
