DH went to the doctor today to have a mole on his cheek removed. The doctor opted to freeze it off with liquid nitrogen, rather than slice it off. This mole was on his cheek bone, near his eye. Now his cheek is severely swollen and partially covering his eye. Has anyone ever had such a thing happen? It looks horrible.

Has he called the doctor about it? I don't think that swelling like that should be expected. If the doctor does not respond to his page, get to the ER. In the meantime, perhaps some cool compresses will give your DH some relief.

I found this on a dermatology site:

After treatment with liquid nitrogen there may be some burning sensation or pain that can last up to 24 hours, and the area may be swollen and red. This is normal. The discomfort can be relieved with Advil, Motrin, extra strength Tylenol, or similar pain relief medication.

So its sounds like he's ok. He's had it frozen before and it never fell off like it was supposed to. I guess this doctor wanted to make sure it worked. DH said he was spraying for a pretty long time, where the previous doc just gave it a little squirt. If its still swollen in the morning, he'll call the doc back.
