So we woke up all feeling a little glum as it was our last morning in the park, our train home was at 5.30pm. I pulled back the curtains-and it had SNOWED! Cue great excitement - Disney in the snow, how magical
We threw the last bits in the cases, checked out and loaded the car up. The aim was to go to the park until about 12, grabbing lunch before we left. The best laid plans and all that....
Anyway the park looked lovely when we arrived at opening time
It was still busy with lots of people streaming in. I had thought the princess meet and greet might not be too bad as the weekend was over so we headed straight to it, but it was busier than Sunday!
As we didn't have a long time, we decided to head for Buzz instead, and again walked straight on it, twice in a row
Autopia was closed not surprisingly as it was still snowing. The girls' UGG style boots which had served them so well in the cold were not too waterproof
so we headed to the shops for souvenirs. I was very restrained and only bought myself a pen (well I had just spent a lot over Christmas
) and the girls spent some money from their Great-Nana on lovely fleecy pink Minnie Mouse blankets (I secretly wanted one too but couldn't see DH appreciating it on our bed
).
Although the snow was lovely to look at, and it added to the magic in some ways, it made it very slippery when walking about, so we found we couldn't cover as much ground as normal, which was a shame for our last few hours
Still the girls enjoyed it, though sweetly they were worried about how cold the princesses must be on their meet and greet!
Not for the first time during our trip we headed to Peter Pan to attempt a ride, but the queue was just too long for the limited time we had left. So it was the Carousel followed by the Teacups, and then it was time to think about eating....we did manage two more goes on Buzz though on route to lunch
Once we were inside thawing out we grabbed some lunch and more delicious hot choc from Hyperion and the girls enjoyed the cartoons.
Just time for a few more pictures in the snow/slush:
and then it was time to bid a sad farewell....
though knowing we are coming back in Feb softened the blow somewhat
By now it was quarter to one, despite planning to leave at 12, but we still had ample time as we needed to be at Calais for 5, and even allowing for the weather we knew we could make it in 3 hours. It was important that we made the train though as I had been advised that on no account should we miss it by the Eurotunnel advisor I had spoken to before we left. The rest of the trains were fully booked, and she told me that if we missed it we would not be able to get back until the next day.....
Well you can probably guess what happened next. All was going well until we missed a junction connecting us to a motorway we needed around Charles de Gaulle. As we couldn't find our way back onto the motorway we needed, we decided to use the SatNav....it was set onto 'quickest route'-which it might have been had it not been for the snow
Poor Barry ended up driving on untreated little country roads for well over an hour
and needless to say we arrived fifteen minutes after check-in had closed
However this was where our luck changed a little. Eurotunnel were running an extra train for people who had missed their trains because of the weather
and there were still spaces on it
So we caught the 7pm train back
Eurotunnel!!
So to sum up....a wonderful trip with lots of new experiences for us - now roll on February!!
ps I have really enjoyed writing this trip report-lovely to reminisce and didn't realise just how much we had done when we were there til I wrote it all down!
