Here it's either freeway or tollway and more and more "free"ways are becoming tollways. Thanks Governor Perry.

usually I call it whatever the name is.

So like 36, 694, 94, or 35E. Or, I will ask DH if we take the "freeway" to get there.

Highway.

But next week at this time, I'll be taking the DVP to the Gardiner to the QEW to the border and the I-86 and a whole bunch of other highways to NJ. I'm taking a cruise! :santa:

Highway, or depends on the road. It could be officially named a Parkway, Expressway, Turnpike, Route, or Interstate. Or if you are in Hawaii, just simply "H," followed by a number.

I always call them by their names when I am talking about them-95, Rt80, Rt 4, Rt17, The Turnpike(NJ Turnpike) the Parkway(Garden State Parkway)

Same here, except I leave out the Route part. So it's 95, 130, 195, 295, Parkway and Turnpike.

By the number or name here.
Hit I75 or I64 to get somewhere, or take New Circle Rd. The Bluegrass Parkway takes you to the middle of nowhere, and the Mountain Parkway does the same.

So I guess it's a mix of all the choices.

We usually just call it "I-95"!

The main road around here is the Thruway...which is part of it's official name The NY State Thruway.

For all the others we are like the other areas that just use the route numbers..and we put the THE in front of them..so you take the 33, or the 290 or the 198....then we have the 190 which is not to be confused with the I-90 (the thruway)..so I just refer to it as the downtown thruway.

We're very specific in Jersey. I-whatever. Route-whatever, Highway-whatever. The Parkway, the Turnpinke. etc

Parkway, Turnpike and Highways. The routes are called by name 18, 22, 78, etc.

Ive always just called it a Highway

On Long Island, I-495 is the Long Island Expressway, commonly referred to as the L.I.E or just the "expressway". Much like they call Manhattan, "The City"...as if it were the only one.

Down here in NC, we call it by number...I-40 (or just "40"). Or Highway 64 (or simply "64"). Sometimes though we may say "so i was driving on the interstate..."

I use the term Highway in general but where I grew up there was the Thruway and the Northway along with a couple Interstates (which would be called I-#). I do alot of traveling on a Parkway now :)

I choose "Other".

It's highway in NY. Expressway here is the Long Island Expressway (aka L.I.E. or what we call the "world's largest parking lot" lol). Interstate are roads like I-95 that go from one state to the next. We never say Freeway.

Totally depends on the road.... it's either the Thruway, the Scajaquada (and no, I did not have to Google that), the Youngman (not sure how many people still use that, but it's what my dad always calls it), the Skyway...

In general, I will say "I hate driving on the Thruway" and that encompasses all of the above... and then some.

So true...to me the Thruway is all of them too. But I say I love driving on the Thruway (I hate stop and go traffic)
