anyone ever been to this event?
it starts nov 17 ( i think ) thru the end of December

LOL, I live 10 minutes from Freeport and had to look up even what you were refering too, lol. I think its just a name (new?) for hey, we decked the town out for the holidays (and it's sponsored by Beans). There's lights on the streets, Santa's got a little booth on Main St. There is "Sparkle Weekend"- first w/e in Dec. That's not a new thing, there's a little parade and Santa comes in. Sounds like they are expanding upon that.

It's definately fun and festive and all, but more in a downtown marketing effort sort of way than some sort of holiday event (well other than of course being shopping!)

Does that answer the question? I can certainly ask around if there's something more than that you wanted to know.

Yes, I thought it was a festive shopping inspired event,
the sparkle weekend looks fun, bean's site also says things for the kids, and carriage rides too.
I thought it looked like a fun way to get some shopping in, and see some holiday lights, and maybe even santa!

I have only been to Freeport in summer :)

We live around an hour north of there; avid hikers and outdoorsy people, so we go to Freeport several times a year to wander around LL Bean.

We went last year, and it was lotsa fun! :) I have some beautiful pictures of the evening we went; the lights are really nice, and the parade was fun. I do recommend it, but bundle up!

I don't see any schedule up yet for the kids activities, but sort of things they've done in the past for similar "festivals"-
storytimes (usually with a local Maine author, eg tie in to get the books {I don't mean that in any bad way- my friend got alot of her books sold that way!)
Gingerbread cookie decorating

Most tend to be in 2 hour or so blocks, but it's something the kids would be doing for maybe 10 minutes. I might stop in if I had to pick something up in Freeport and had the kids along. Truthfully, not such a big deal I'd plan as a fun outing for the kids. (It'd be more like "let me shop 2 hours and we'll stop in here for 5 minutes :)) The hayride things are usually a horse drawn wagon up/down Main St. Again, a fun diversion, but not a huge destination thing.

Freeport in Dec is alot colder than summer :)

If you are up this way, the Narrow Gauge Railroad in Portland has started doing a Polar Express ride. I've never done it as my kids are too familiar with the route to believe they are going to the North Pole :thumbsup2 but I've heard it is fun.
