I'm reading Freedom Writers Diary right now and I have to tell you all, that it is truly a life-changing book.
Basically, a young white teacher got a group of freshmen kids -- some of the roughest in the school -- blacks, hispanics, asians, and a few whites. One day, a few of the kids passed around a racist drawing of one of the black kids and she flipped out. Totally changed the direction of her lesson plans and focused on racism. The kids wrote journals, and the book I'm reading is a collection of their journal entries.
This book has me going through so many emotions -- from heartbreaking tears, to a heart full of pride for these kids and their accomplishments.
Awesome, awesome book.
