Freebie Thread for the week of 7/16/07

Unfortunately, once a recruiter gets your phone number or address, it is almost impossible to get rid of them. My husband had one harassing him. Called him at home every day. He even tracked him down at work. I would never sign up for a freebie from the military.

Great, that's what I was afraid of.:headache: I didn't use my real phone number. Thank goodness for that at least...

I finally won, and it said to "click here" to redeem prize. Then my pop-up blocker blocked the window & even though I then clicked to allow pop-ups from that site it was too late and it was gone!!! So, be sure you "allow pop-ups from mike and ike candy" BEFORE you start playing or you may have to endure my heartbreak. Yes, I could go buy the darn candy, but this is so much more fun! :rotfl:

That also happened to me. I emailed them and they are sending me the free candy. At the bottom of the page click contact. Good Luck

When I was in high school, I was harrassed by every branch of the Armed Services. I graduated in 1991. My mom and dad lived in the house 8 years after I graduated high school. I moved out in 1995.

They told me that when they moved in 1999, they were still getting monthly calls from recruiters.

I guess I made a really good impression. lol.

Have you ever seen Fahrenheit 911 by Michael Moore??

He had cameras follow the recruiters to places were kids hang out and try and get them to sign up by telling them all kindsa stuff!

It is sad to lie to the kids, they believe almost anything b/c it all sounds so good- I can understand completely if you made it your OWN choice~ But NOT by misinformation.

If anyone gets a call from them or they knock at your door ask them if the military takes people who are home for just a few days for a visit and need to go back to the mental institution!:lmao:

That is so true! I knew a guy who was told that he could take his dog with him to basic training! ***???

Also my BIL thought he enlisted for 4 years, but when he got there, he found out he was enlisted for 6 years.

Gosh, isn't that the truth. I guess it is the local high school's policy to give the phone numbers of the seniors to the local recruiters, if they ask for it. We have had a recruiter calling for my son for 2 years now. And we have an unlisted number! :headache: He always manages to call when DS is out of town. This last time, I finally told him he goes to college in another town and he sounded disappointed. But, after a short pause, he asked me what DS is studying! :rotfl: I have the feeling this is not the last I will hear from him.

As part of the "No Child Left Behind" Act, schools are required to provide military recruiters with students' personal information, including address and phone number. If you don't want this information provided to them, you have to fill out an opt-out form.

Has anyone actually found these in the stores? I got the coupon a while back but can't find them in any of the stores I shop:confused3
Target used to have them. I bought quite a few boxes because I like them. I wonder if they are discontinuing them already. :confused3

I didn't know that! Thanks, I will have to find that form. Youngest DS is going to be a Junior this year and I don't want any more callers than the one I am getting now. I almost feel like I should be inviting him to Thanksgiving dinner...he has been calling for so many years now! :rotfl:

Senseo users-Just an FYI. My Walmart had the refillable pod (where you use your own coffee) on clearance yesterday for $5. In case anyone was looking for one.

This is the most fantastic thread ever! I'm so in! I'll go search for freebies to add! Glad I found you all!!! :goodvibes
