Free Water at Counter Service?

I easily drink 100+ ounces of water a day when NOT at Disney walking around in the heat. I carry a 27 ounce Kleen Kanteen bottle around. I have filled it up at countless water fountains around Disney and never had a problem with the taste. Of course, I do fill it up at any of the CS locations I can, but I really have never gotten the hate for Disney tap water or the fear over the "dirtiness" of water fountains.

We've never waited in line for water. We just bypass the ordering line and go right up to the counter and ask for ice water. Most cups have been extra large. Tastes great to me! :)

I would just go to the cashier and wait behind others. If you just want water because it's free, why not wait a bit? It's free and you don't really need it at that moment.

If you have a line of 8 people and 4 only want water then why not have the 4 who don't need the cashier step to a side window. That way the lines to get to the cashier are half as long and won't stretch out and crowd the area. Also the CM s who monitor the lines will have a better idea of traffic and can adjust personelle accordingly.

That would be why they encourage you to just go to the window, it's the same theory of having a no bag line at the entrance of the park. They don't want you standing there just for the sake of standing there, it's better to expedite and get you out of the way.

However it's entirely your choice to stand in line.

I have when there is no 'pick up' area and the person who takes your order is the same person who hands you your food, but if there are two distinct areas I'll bypass the first and head to the second as I've been told to do in the past.

I've heard that they will give you free ice water at counter service restaurants. Is this true? What was your experience? Were they happy to do it, or did they give you a "look" when you asked? Does the water taste ok? Thanks!

I think it tastes fine, and I don't feel like the CM's look down on me - they're on a budget too, and understand. Between room and tickets and everything else even if they did give me a 'look' I'm not gonna feel guilty getting a free water after spending thousands for Disney vacation LOL

Can't do the water fountains. Something about florida public water to me, it had a unique taste/smell that I don't like and am not used to. Drinking from the water fountains at disney feels similar to the taste when splash mountain water gets in your face during the drop.

Always go for the free water at CS locations when eating, its filtered via the fountain dispenser machine - in fact I believe that is some EPA law governing water served at any restaurant and that it must be filtered. There is never any reason to get the Dasani bottles at Disney if you can help it, Dasani is just bottle TAP water - its not spring water!

I did this a few times this year (just asked for a cup of ice water at a CS). Never got any "looks" or rudemess, CMs were always fine, like they did it all the time and it was no problem. It tastes like water. (I don't mind the water at WDW, drink from fountains and all, so don't ask me.)

At Casey's Corner, cashier directed me to the pickup window where the CM had a whole bunch of cups of water ready to go. That was the one place I was really aware of that. I never stood in a long line; kind of gauged the line before I got in and only stopped where there wasn't much wait. I remember doing this at one of the Sunset Market counters and Min n Bill's (? the boat) at DHS, Casey's and Pecos Bill's at MK. I usually got water with my CS meals, too, and might carry it around afterward. It was not a problem.

I travel light and am not lugging a bottle or mug around with me all day. I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to carry the poncho next year.

I buy the cheap ponchos that they sell at Walmart and like places. They fit flat in my back pocket.

My water bottle sleeve has a clip that works on a belt loop.

Hands free. No bag check.

Because I was told by the cashier not to wait. Just go to the counter.

But you did go to the cashier first. That's the point. Go to the cashier first and then have them tell you what the line is like in front of you. I have been in lines at the parks where you don't even go to a cashier right away. You are funneled into a queue line just to get told which cashier to go to. Not sure bypassing that queue line is the best option for a free cup of water. Just my opinion.

There is free water all over Disney World at the fountains. And you can bring in your own water bottles of any kind (except glass).

I'm with you on that. We queued up with everyone else, and were never once told to that we should have just gone straight to the serving window. The cashier responded positively, and told us to move over, but never were we told not to have joined the queue or to just have gone to the window. I guess some of them might, but it didn't seem to be normal (or polite) custom to not at least wait your turn with everyone else.

But you don't have to, they don't expect you to, and they don't want you to!
