Free trip to Disney World!!!

The spectator process was CRAZY here!! You had to ride a bus from a local park over. There were times the wait for the bus was over an hour!!!! When you got there - you could barely get to the house. We were there on furniture move in day and they came out and said it was time - we saw all the stars - even TY - but after 2 hours of telling us it was going to happen any minute - DD was exhausted, hot and crabby - so we left.

ABC did replace the lawns of all the neighbors!!!

I'm in Thomasville and it looks like they picked a great family who deserves it. Thankfully the rain has let up for this morning!

Oh - so wonderful!!!! When someone is fighting cancer it has such a terrible effect on not only the patient but the entire family!! Just one small random act of kindness means so much. (DH had cancer 21 years ago when my DDs were 10 and 3.) I can only imagine how thrilled they all must be!!!!! :grouphug:

We went out as spectators today and heard that the house is back on schedule. It's still muddy but what a wonderful thing to watch in your own community.

In the Atlanta area we had an EHM home built, 5000 square feet completely paid for plus a fund set up so the interest could pay the property taxes and send the kids to college. Not long after the crew left they took out a mortgage on the house and invested in in, of all things, a construction business (If he knew anything about construction why was their home falling apart in the first place?). The house was threatened with foreclosure and the people were playing the victim role again as if the bankers who lent them the money were actually mean enough to ask for payments.

Last I heard they were trying to work out a deal to keep the house but I know everyone in the community thinks these people are the biggest bunch of losers on the planet and they feel sorry for their kids. You can bet that any families on EHM have strict rules on how the finances are handled now thanks to these 2 yahoos.

I remember reading about the losers in Georgia a few months back. To be honest, I stopped watching the show for a while because it just left a sour taste in my mouth. But I realize that there are always going to be people like that who take advantage of others' kindness; I think the volunteers in Georgia should be upset. There is also another case(maybe in California?) where the Extreme Makeover crew renovated an existing house for a family who agreed to take in four or five siblings whose parents were dead. None of those children are currently living in the home, so they are not benefitting from the renovation. Apparently they are blaming ABC...who knows how that will end.

Here in NC, the foundation is complete...and I still don't know how they managed that in such bad weather...and they have been framing all day. The people I personally know who are working on the house are all the best in their fields, from the contractor, to the electrician, to the painters. We have no shortage of people volunteering their time, equipment, or services. Today, many volunteers were turned away because they really were not needed...what a wonderful problem to have! (My husband said I should have brought those folks to our house!). I can't wait to see the house Tuesday!

We just had Extreme Home Makeover come to our area and it was an awesome experience. I did volunteer, but due to my lack of construction knowledge, I just helped move things and run errands. I give huge kudos to the builders and all the people that actually helped build the house. We had a torrential downpour during the first two days which put them horribly behind schedule, and although it looked like it wasn't going to be done in time for the "reveal", it was - almost. At least enough to film. They had to stay an extra day or two to get all of the filming done. In fact, the family had to stay in a hotel for the first night because the inside wasn't complete. Ours was done basically for the daughter who has raised thousands of dollars for Relay for Like and for a friend who has cancer. The daughter herself is battling a disease that has caused her to have more than seventeen surgeries in her 12 years of life and she hasn't raised a dime for herself!

The family's home was overrun by mold and they didn't have the money to fix it. There were some selfish people in our area who were upset that this family was chosen because both parents had jobs (not extremely high paying jobs, but run of the mill factory jobs). When one adds up costs of treating mold in your house and medical bills, anyone would have problems. I was very greatful that this family was chosen. Were there other people in the area that might have been deserving also? Probably, but ABC does their homework, and I feel it was a good decision. I was just amazed at how selfish some people can be!

The family from our area went to Disney Land. My son is friends with one of the boys in the family and I talked to him about it. He said it was kind of weird having someone with you 24/7. They had to have a chaperone at all times so ABC was sure that the family wasn't in contact with anyone from here. They wanted to be sure the family did not see any pictures beforehand. I can understand that! Who wants to ruin the "reveal"? He wasn't complaining at all, don't get me wrong. Just strange having someone following you around all the time! LOL! The show is to air in January and until then no one can take pictures inside the house - at all! Anyone that comes to the house, has to hand over their cell phones and/or cameras to the parents so they are sure no pictures are taken. That was part of the contract with ABC.

If anyone gets a chance to help out on one of these projects, jump at the chance. It was such an awesome experience and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I can tell you how the foundation was put in. My husband was one of them that volunteered. They were scheduled to start at 8pm. They didn't even have the footings poured at this time. They started laying 3000 block around 11:30 and finished around 2:30. This took place in the rain!! Not to mention the wind compliments of Ida. But they made it. He didn't get home until 4. But it's only one day of our life. I wish we could give a lot of days of life to this deserving family.

Today the Creasey family came home and WE WERE THERE!! They were so surprised! What a great feeling to be a part of this. They were still there filming when we left. Got to see Paulie,Ty and Ed!!!!

Hi, lunchlady!
I was there, too! I arrived at 10:30 am and left at 4 pm. We were in a pretty good spot on the side of the house(on the Amber Trace side). I was able to get some good pictures! I hung around a little after the family went inside to see if I could do anything for the contractor's family. I was able to take their two sons out for an early dinner/late lunch. They had been at the site ALL DAY. It was such a great day here in Lexington...seeing the Creasey family return to a new home was so emotional. If anyone ever has the opportunity to participate in Extrem Makeover Home Edition, please do...you will never forget it!

Tonight is the night that our small town becomes famous. I have been told that Ty arrived by school bus since Mrs. Creasey is a teacher. Our whole town is EXCITED!! I even took off my PT job tonight to watch. Hope everybody gets to see the Creasey family tonight. We have been praying for their family.

Wow, what a blessing for that teacher and her family. I know they did it once around here. I didnt know how much was really involved until I read this thread.

Another family we know has applied. I dont know their status. The mom has cancer, the dd is in a whleechair and had like her 30th operation and the dad is having alot of medical problems too. I am sure all the familys that get these homes are just so blessed.

I saw this show..what an amazing woman and family and I'm so glad they could get this new home and have such a great family time.

I watched this show and was crying almost the whole show. What an amazing family.

So deserving.....and appreciative.

I am glad so many peple watched the show Sunday night! My favorite part was when Jason(the builder) spoke to Tricia and her family. He got choked up just talking to them! He truly is that sincere. The whole town did as much as they could, especially the businesses. RCR racing(for all you nascar fans) was involved, as well as CVS and Bob Timberlake. Did you see the furniture that was donated? And the $100,000.00 CVS donated towards Tricia's medical bills? And the scholarships to Catawba College for all three girls? Our local community college donated one to each of the girls as well. For a small town without a mall, I think we did a great job!
