Free tickets? anyone else get them?

On the first morning of our last trip (4/22-4/29) my DGF and I woke to find we had a voice message on our room phone which said there was some post at the front desk for us which we thought would be just some park info. So after breakfest we walked down to collect it and to our surprise it was two free tickets each too ether of the mini golf course's or the wide world of sports!. The cm at the desk said these tickets had been paid for in advance. I explained that we hadn't ordered any but she just asked us for some details and id and said that they had been paid for in our names! Has anybody else had anything like this happen or have any idea why we got them?

I've had them thrown in as part of a Disney package. Did you have a package or room only reservation?

very strange! do you have a friend who knew you'd be there and maybe sent them as a "gift?" (we sent a big gift basket full of princess stuff to sil/bil/g'd when they were down and signed the card "cinderella, jasmine, ariel, etc..." and they had NO CLUE how or why or from who... they thought it was the most incredible pixie dust and we did not spill the beans 'til after they were home! and g'd still has no clue it wasn't really from the princesses! LOL!)

Disney used to throw in "free" min-golf or WWS tickets to convert what was intended to be a room only reservation into a package. Packages have different cancellation and pre-payment requirements than room only reservations.

Did you have to pay for your reservation 45 days in advance? If so you had a package.

I remember we had room only packages back in 03 and such and we got the free tickets to mini golf or WWOS. They were on our confirmation letter we received. I think they just used to throw them in. I didn't think they did anymore since I haven't got them in a couple of years.

If you booked them through the 800 # some CM's booked room only reservations using the Disney Travel Reservation system which made a room only reservation a room only package w/ a 45 day before you go you pay it off. The other way they could book was through the Central Reservation (CRO) system and then you got a true room only reservation w/ a 1 night deposit & a 6 day prior to reservation cancellation clause and pay for your room when you get there.
If you didn't understand that there were 2 booking systems when you made your reservations, they didn't explain to you, they just booked through Disney Travel.
It used to be that there were 2 different phone #'s for the 2 systems, but they combined them a few years ago. DisBoards had many posts warning about the room only package, with MiniGolf included, at the time these changes were made.
